Default Cobra Brake Kit

Hey guys! I need some help in reference to the fitment of Item# 50015 at americanmuscle.com this is the Cobra front brake kit. it comes with calipers, rotors, pads and brake lines. In the description it says it will work on the v6. on Item# 50057 which is the front calipers/pads only, it says i need a ford racing bracket for it to work on a v6 mustang. I have a 2003 v6 which i've replaced the calipers on once already, the crappy stock ones keep seizing up so i want a change. I called AM and the guy on the phone said he doesn't think it comes w/the bracket and i'd have to get that from ford.

I called the local ford dealer parts section and they said they don't make/sell a bracket for this.

1.) will the complete front kit work on the v6, does it come w/the bracket?

2.) where can i buy this mysterious bracket?

3.) if anyone here (gt/v6) has done this upgrade pleaseeee helllpppp!

thanks guys!

Honestly, you don't really need larger brakes on the V6 unless you will be getting some decent power, but if you need to do brakes anyways, then I guess go for it. Just buy the whole kit. You can't buy just the calipers and pads, cause you need the rotors too. That's the whole point of upgrading to the cobra kit is to have larger brakes. So unless really needed, buy the whole front brake kit and call it a day.

I had to replace the calipers about a year-year and a half ago and got the regular ford replacement ones. The left front caliper is dragging causing the whole wheel to heat up, so i need to replace it again. I don't want to replace it with the ford OE crap again since after just a year it's failing. I want to upgrade to the Cobra ones because i don't want to go back to the crappy OE ones. I wanted to replace the caliper (since it got hot and was smoking), pads, and rotor as well.

My question is will the cobra front brake kit bolt up to my car?

also, AM sells the cobra calipers/pads in one kit, and sells the rotors and brake lines in another. This kit is about $20 less then buying the kit that comes with the calipers/pads/rotors/lines. I was wondering why this was....

Not sure why it's a bit cheaper buy each thing separately, but I'd just go with the whole kit for $20 more. They use to have the Mach kit as well which was the same, but cheaper. Not sure what happened to those and buyfordracing.com use to have the kit for like $499 when I got mine and they came with SS brake lines. So all in all, just buy the full kit and it will bolt right up. I would suggest getting SS lines though as it makes worlds of a difference in pedal feel.

From the way all the kits I have seen it would lead me to believe the mounting bracket bolt pattern is the same, but the cobra one would be bigger. On the kits say they would be a direct replacement for the cobra and upgrade for the GT/v6. If you are going to get the kit the best one I found was: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...Front-Calipers It's cheaper than AM, and includes the SS lines

I would go with that by far. You will want the SS lines and should do them at the same time. No point in doing things twice. Not sure why buyfordracing stopped selling the kits they had. Now that I think about it, I think I bought my kit from them for like $350.

I pieced a kit together and I didnt save much money at all. S/S lines are a must with these brakes. I went years running with the rubber lines and that left a lot to be desired. I was really dissatisfied with the performance of the upgrade. Then, I added pads and slotted rotors, still no difference in pedal feel or clamping power. I finally bought S/S lines and was able to feel every slot in the rotors as they moved passed the pads. That alone I knew my calipers were maintaining the pressure required to make my car stop in shorter distance.

awesome guys, thanks for all the input! I just cancelled my order at AM and ordered it thru LRS...AM didn't have it in stock anyways. They did say that they price match, just for future reference...didn't help me this time because i need these brakes ASAP as my car is DOA in the driveway right now : / Hopefully LRS will have it in stock and get it here quick. $515 shipped thru them.

anyways, back to the original question...this is going to fit right? like bolt up right out of the box?

got the brakes installed yesterday, they are a BIG improvement over the stock ones. went ahead and replaced the lower ball joints because they looked ate up.

Latemodelresto.com rocks, i would definitely suggest using them for this brake kit as it is only $499 and includes steel braided brake lines.

I'm guessing you installed the brakes yourself? If you didn't, how much was labor to get the new brake kit put on? Still thinking about upgrading myself, after suspension is finished.

the girlfriends dad is a mechanic for ford, so he did me a favor and installed it. It wasn't really that hard, if you know your way around a wrench you could do it yourself. I changed out the balljoints while we had the car apart because they were worn. Might want to check yours out before you have install the brakes, they might be worn also.
