Default paddle shifters for auto mustang

I was driving down the road the other day in my 2003 auto sixxer, wishing that it was a manual trans. then i thought about paddle shifters, how do they work and can you put them onto an auto trans, if so how much would that cost??

I haven't heard of anybody ever putting a paddle-shifter in a Mustang before. I don't know exactly how it would be done, but it'd probably be cheaper to just put in a manual transmission. Why would you rather a paddle-shifting automatic opposed to a manual anyway? It seems strange to me...

O/T: It's good to see another Coloradan here.

It varies everywhere you go. Obviously, it would be a much cheaper route to do the swap yourself so that you avoid labor costs, but if you don't know what you're doing don't go that route. If you decide to have a shop do it, the price will vary from place to place. I wish I could say that all transmission changes for 2003 Mustangs costs X dollars, but it's different everywhere you go. I don't even have a ballpark guess. If I were you, I would check with the shops near you and get price quotes, then do some research to see if the place with the best price is reputable, and go from there.

There are no V4s, its a boxer engine or an inline 4. No "V" to it.

Just saving you from getting flamed.

Paddle shifters require a lot of work, its not just getting them slapped on there. But as King said, a manual swap would be first.

i was just looking at some other forums and stuff and generally people said that a manual swap would be like $1000-$3500. i also looked at some paddle shifters and they were around the same, paddle shifters give you the same controll of a manual but they shift the car a ton faster.

You are getting some bad information somewhere.

If you can do the swap yourself, its relatively cheap. Maybe 1,500-2k. If you are paying a shop to do it, and they choose not to rape you, i'd say 3-4k.

Umm not really, its more so you don't have to move your hands away from the steering wheel. The shifting speed has more to do with clutch engagement, gear cut style, synchro quality and other things than the paddle shifters or shifter.

If you really think paddle shifters will help you shift faster then you are sorely mistaken.

Only cars like the GTR and Ferrari's shift "faster" than many, but like stated it has more to do with the transmission and the computer controlling the shifting than the form of shifter.

I'm near Boulder.
...but my personal recommendation for a transmission shop would be Transmission Clinic in Castle Rock.

Sell your car, add 2 grand, buy a Manual GT.

Problem solved.

Someone with the skills to pull it off right would probably already be working for Ford.

Or dead, and Ford would've stolen their ideas.

Anyone ever watch the movie about the intermittent wipers?
