4.6 time!
I've found me two wrecked GTs.
http://huntington.craigslist.org/cto/1763452051.html
http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/1758178504.html
I'm not gonna pay asking price. I'd jew them down to like 1000.
I know both of the cars look rough, but as long as both engines turn over and run, I got my cars near flawless body to put them in. Without paying GT insurance.
What does everyone think?

Yea......good luck. This also means you have to swap the trans, rear end, etc.
I don't see it happening.
You always take risks with wrecked cars too. Even if it does turn over who knows how long it's been sitting there, if the owner even took care of it, or if there are parts that are damaged that just SEEM like their okay.
I've had plenty of buddies buy wrecked Termis to pull the motor and trans, the motor turned over at the junkyard and everything. Got it home and realized there was a chunk missing out of the trans bellhousing, it leaked radiator fluid, and had a terrible *** tick.
It's a waste in my opinion. Save up and buy a low-mile GT.

What in the **** Cleetus.
The computer is going to be a bitch. Transmission like everyone is shitting themselves with is not a huge issue...
Swap it with a 4R70W and a bellhousing for the v8 if you're willing to dick around with the computer.
Come to think of it, my buddy JUST sold a complete manual swap, including a T56 for someshit like $1000 ... simply because he didn't feel like dicking around with electronics.
So you have to find a rear end.. you'll spend some change on it. Not a whole lot but lets say...$500
So now you're in atleast $3 grand. Not counting the computer. Uhhh I think the K Member may be different as well, I'm not completely sure though. So there's some more cash..
Ok, so, lets tach this **** on here...
1. Motor 1k
2. Transmission 1kish (if you're that lucky)
3. Computer
4. K Member (possibly)
5. Tuning for the computer and motor swap.
So..you still need an exhaust for this.
Lets not to mention you don't know if this piece of **** is going to run properly or not. Some ******** may have pulled the upper intake off and left it sitting in the weather you never know.
So..for all this money..you could buy a forged shortblock from MMR and still have a few grand to save.
Or you could build the v6, which would run quicker then mid 13s, like a 99-04 GT runs.
Or you could put this money to some sort of other use..like new t-shirts or something.
So, after these expenses, why do you want this stock, slow, v8 for?
And before someone comes in and decides to run their mouths about 1) My car being gone 2) Modding a v8 to make it fast 3) all of the above
It's a general statement, the stock 4.6, in GT form, is slow.

well I know a 4.6 isnt that quick. i just need the v8 sound, thats all I want. But everyone says for a v8 swap, get a donor car.
Why wouldnt everything in that car, switch right into mine?
Say everythings in working order.
For 1k, im getting, a complete 4.6, a 4r70w because they arent newer models, a complete 8.8, and a complete GT computer. and the K member, if its not screwed up. if it is i can just throw a tubular k member in there and call it a day.
I know I can put the engine in, and I know i can put the transmission in. cause I put a police interceptor engine in a friends car. I told him and told him its a weaker engine cause it didnt have PI heads, but he got it free and his other hydrolocked.
I'm not helpless when it comes to working on them, but I just figured that if i had a whole GT to do this, that it would be easy cause all i have to do is switch the whole powertrain, which is simple, and then switch the wiring up.

^ +1 on that. If you're gettin' all of that **** for that price, you'd be ahead price-wise compared to getting a used, cheap GT. I was going to say get a GT because they sell for as low as $3-4K with no major problems these days. But I'm all for dicking around with **** to find a way to get it to work. Kudos for stepping up to the plate, I hope you go through with it. Keep us posted. And hey, you at least have a 220 amp alternator to throw at it!

Thats hoping everything works properly.

And look who we're talking about...
He'll have the GT hanging by come-alongs to some trees as he pulls out the motor and trans.
lol

Motor swap and wiring isn't that hard. You just need to do your research before you ever buy a part car and or start the swap.
I mean hell if Stephen4536 can swap in a 5 speed and 4v into his car, and he is a retard, then anyone can do it.

That's about the dumbest thing I've seen. If you really wanted to attempt this project then kudos to you, but the fact you want to do it just for the V8 sound is quite dumb. Good luck to you on your time consuming project just for sound.

my car was a 2000 v6 i did a whole gt swap from a 2001gt in 2001,sure as hell didnt change it for the sound though, lmfao!!! and it was really easy nothing major,i have even swap a 03 cobra drivetrain in my friends 03 gt,not to mention i have a lightning 5.4 in my car at the moment.from day one all i heard was neagative **** on why i shoundnt do it.but i did it anyway and its was straightforward and simple, only thing i had to do is take it to dealership and get p.a.t.s system prorammed,i have been working on the v6 since 2001 and it has come a long way,and the best part is the v6 insurance lol,but like a few member said you can buy a gt for 3to 4 grand these days, swapping isnt the hard part knowing what you want and making it happen is

I'm still lookin for deals, and when i see one that I feel right about I'm definetly getting it. And I'm definetly doing the swap.
Many good things.
V6 insurance with a V8 engine.
V8 power
V8 sound
8.8 rear.
Manual tranny.
And a buncha spare parts.
I can't go wrong doing this IF i find the right car.

Once you swap in the 4.6 2V you're going to realize how slow it is. Then you'll want to do something else, and so on until you realize that its a complete waste of money.
Why dump thousands of dollars into a car that depreciates so rapidly. Theres nothing like having a car in your garage that after the car purchase, and mods come out to like 16,000 dollars but you could only sell it for 8.

Yeah. I think I'd actually decrease the value putting a GT drivetrain into it dealer wise. But as far as selling it locally it'd be much better.
Either way, if and when i get a v8 in my car with a nice smooth 5 speed, and good rolling 8.8, i doubt id want to sell it!

That's the reason I bought a GT when I did. I remeber the moment very clearly. I was headed home from work, sitting at a light. A very nice GT w/ full exhaust drove by. I was so envious of the sound. I knew right then that I wanted get a GT. Two months later I got one. If not for the sound, I probably would have kept the v6 a little longer.

Yeah, but for some people cars are their hobby. We all know cars aren't an investment and we don't buy one for that reason. We buy whatever we can afford and like and then we mod. I'll keep modding cars until it's no longer fun, but I don't ever count on making any kind of profit.
But to each his own.

you missed the point entirely.
Business is never a hobby. It's business. If you enjoy it, fair play to you, enjoy that. It's still business and you've sacrificed time you could be enjoying the pleasures of being for money to try and make those few times you'll have left more enjoyable.
The rest of us will have happy lives focusing our spare energies into those random things that entertain us but which we don't intentionally derive any income from. Those are called hobbies. Once you've figured out that no amount of money will ever make you as happy as actually being happy to be where you're at, you'll probably find a real hobby again.
EDIT: It's great to want. It makes the getting so much more rewarding.

Business is entirely a hobby. I have a day job, but i also have side business. Those businesses are my hobby, i just happen to make money doing it. It doesn't consume my life, I work my normal 40 hours a week, and maybe 5-15 hours doing other things.
I do have other hobbies. I play ice hockey for a local juniors team. I also ride my bike, and I have my friends, and family.
If I spend 5-15 hours a week, to make enough money to pay most of my bills, and my other hobbies, more power to me. I'm most definitely not "busting my ***" doing it either. ****, I bust my *** more at my day-job, where I make less money than I do in my other business ventures.
Don't think because I do extra, so i can be financially free in 5-10 years, that i live a miserable life. Its a terrible misconception.

I'm not searching for happiness, I already am happy. I never thought in a million years I could be living the way I am, as happy as I am.
