Default Shift Kits

Anyone have any experience with a Shift Kit? I'm looking for suggestions as far as which to get for my 98 v6.

I have installed pretty much all of them, and the best is to just do the Jerry mod aka J-mod. Its dirt cheap, most expensive part is buying new fluid and filter, to do and is pretty simple. Be sure to drop the pan and let it drain for awhile to get most of the tranny fluid out. Also wipe the pan clean and take the magnet out and clean it off so it can do its job better.

Here is the updated Jerry mod write up, check it out.

We just did the J-Mod on GDP's car, and I think he's happy with it. I wouldn't do any of the other kits on my car at all. Especially not the Trans-Go kit, it's been the death of many 4R70W's over the years.

I looked at the pdf it seems a little out of my league; I'm not that good of a mechanic. Would a mechanic do it if I brought them the directions and whatnot? And furthermore, how long would you say I'd be paying for? I'm guessing its like less than a hundred bucks for the supplies...

Thanks Bullitt, I was looking at the Trans-Go kit now I know not to waste my money on it.

J-mod. All others only increase the line pressure which isn't good for the trans. I had the Diablosport programmer on my six and it worked well.

You can do it. Trust me its not hard at all to do. You drop the valve body which is just a bunch of bolts and then take out the separator plate and drill some holes. Its very simple really. If not a tranny shop can do it for you if you give them the directions. However you will be paying 2 or 3 times the amount of money over doing it yourself and learning how your car works.

I wouldn't recommend this to someone if I didn't think 90% of the people out there couldn't handle it.

Yeah, it's very easy. The only thing I suggest to everyone before they start is to make sure you have a great pair of snapring pliers. Cheapies make the job a lot more difficult than it needs to be. You want the kind that squeeze together when you squeeze the handle, not the opposite.

Omg is he right. I have a shitty pair that made a 1 minute job take 25mins. Go rent a good one from autozone or something. That is the hardest part of the whole deal if you ask me.
