Default UDPs

Anyone have good or bad opinions about Under Drive pulleys?

I have heard some mixed reviews on them. I am trying to decided what my next Mod will be and right now its between UDP and a Short throw shifter.

Get the shifter first, then the UDP.

This should cover about everything you need to know about them

I like my UDPs but I wish I had a manual so I could have had to choose between them and a short throw

I thought about UDP's, but I don't feel as if they're worth the money. They claim 8-10 horses, but I doubt it is that much. Not to mention I'm putting a small system in my car soon and I don't want to cause any problems with my accessories.

I'd go with the shifter. You probably wouldn't even notice any extra power from the UDP's, but you'd damn sure notice a better shift.

They claim to 'free up horsepower' by reducing accessory drag on the motor, from your air conditioner, radio, etc.

No, it's actually dyno proven to gain around 10hp.

But like you said, if you're getting a system this is a mod I wouldn't do.

do the short throw shifter first. they make a manual a little more fun to drive because of the feel and smoother shifts.

the UDP free some low end torque iirc, but regardless, get them done at a shop. my rule of thumb, if you have to ask "can i install it my self?" the chances are that you can't.

you will diff see gains with the UDP...and they are easy to install but as for the alernator pulley, you will need a air impact to take off the bolt

I would have no problem installing it myself. Just wanted to know which one first and if they are worth it. I have done all my work so far myself and will continue to except for gears probably unless my brother is in town to help me.

Shifter first for sure, as its something you will feel every time you drive the car. Its a first mod for a manual car for sure.

I have not seen any MGW ones. Just looked at the MGW site and they are pretty sweet.

I also checked their site out and it's pretty much well became one of the next items on the list for my stang, and as is I'm fairly happy with my stock shifter. It looks like a great product for the same money as steeda I had looked at.

Trust me the stock shifter is not good after you drive your car with any aftermarket one for more then 1 minute.

Most every car I've owned was wore out by the time I got it so this 02 gt with 100k miles on it is like new to me. I do plan on buying a new shifter. The only thing holding me back (other than my bank acc.) is setting the stops. I've never changed out one and don't want to **** my car up.

Its beyond easy, plus on the late 01-04 cars we have the TR3650 tranny which has built in shift stops in the tranny so you really can't mess that up.

The stock shifter is a rubber baseball bat compared to an MGW shifter, just makes it so much more fun to go through the gears.

I'm wanting to buy an o/r x pipe for my stang next in hopes to improve the sound, but the more you guys talk the mgw shifter is looking better and better.
