Im glad AM finally put an affordable posi on their site.
For a while they only had an 8.8 rear end posi that was like..$500.
Now they have one for the 7.5 and its only lke...250, I think.

Cant remember the brand.
All I remember is saying "**** that. Too much money."
And didnt wanna have to buy an 8.8 rear end either.
But Im starting my new job her in a couple days, and Im going to start saving for a posi and 4:10s. Should only need about 500 all together including the rebuild kit and the install.

Speaking of breaking the posi.......I heard from a local shop that a 7.5 Trac-lok will break if you burnout a lot and do hard starts and shifts, that old hard driving thing basically. Anybody want to share experience on the durability of a 7.5 Trac-lok/gears and ****?

As long as you are talking about installing a full 8.8 rear end from a GT then yes its a straight swap from the 7.5 to the 8.8, however if you mean just the posi unit then no you can not do that. Because the 7.5 cases is smaller then the 8.8 rear end.

V6mustangstuff.com sells 8.8 rearends with gears in it allready. Grant the one with 410s is kinda expensive but a 8.8 with 3.31 with only 20 miles on it is like 550. Check it out. under GT take off parts.

I'd probably check out local junkyards, craigslist, ebay.. shipping on a rear end is an arm and a leg (i did that about a month ago)
And you can go with an old SN95 rear end, or a new edge rear, only issue with the sn95 is it is slightly shorter then a new edge..but will work just fine.
PCola is right, you can't just throw on a housing, you need an entire new rear end.
TBH though, if you aren't pushing over 250 RWHP you should be fine with a 7.5 most of the issues with breaking them are the posi's .. under 250 RWHP on drag radials isn't enough to hurt an axle (most of the time) and if you buy a good posi, it should hold up just fine.
