improving my exhaust
i just put on a new magnaflow catback duel exhaust on my 99 v6 stang, but its an improvement dont get me wrong but i want it louder. im new to this stuff but i was looking into headers shorty or long tube, not quite which one would be a better pick? i also have a cold air intake that i havent installed yet, but im just looking at some opinions on how to make my stang really roar

the v6 will never roar... if your looking for that GT sound...well...get a GT... you already have probably the best sounding setup for the 6cyl already.
you could get rid of your cats...that would make it louder.. but raspy...nature of the 6.

I'm also wondering how to remove the stock y-pipe to get a x pipe or h pipe? but i have the magnafllow catback duels on so i was wondering what my options were? thanks for the input! Very Apprectiated

H pipes for sure, the sixxer is even firing so it keeps the pressure equal. You won't be able to get much more sound out of the Magnaflows, they're a pretty mild setup for just about any car, V6/GT/Mach/Cobra they aren't exactly known for being a very loud or agressive brand. Longtubes may give you a little deeper/throatier sound, but it's really not worth the money IMHO.. JM2C.

AM doesn't sell Longtubes do they? Looks like they only have shorty's for the v6's

I guess a shorty mid-pipe *could* fit on a pair of shorty headers provided the rest of the exhaust is custom. I've never seen that done before, though. If you have pics of the exhaust from the headers back to the midpipe I could tell you.

no no on the website it says that I have to have a shorty mid pipe in order for the long tubes to work. how would i know if i had a shorty midpipe?
#16
You probably have a regular mid-pipe, but if you want to check just look at it. If you can't tell, just take a picture and I'll tell you.

Oh, yeah you have to have a shorty h or x pipe in order for the long tubes to work. The long tubes extend farther back down the car than the stock headers do, so in order to balance that, you need a shorter midpipe.

Honestly, a V6 is a V6.. It's never going to have that deep throaty sound that everyone loves. Even with a mild cam setup and with LT's it's still going to sound like a 6 cylendar engine. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a thing against the sixxers, but the engine is almost always going to be louder than the exhaust no matter what you do...

5.4? That's weaksauce. Sneak into boss R&D headquarters and steal that 7 liter prototype they've been workin on.

IMO if you want loud and nice setup for a sixxer go with a cherrybomb I had that on my last sixer and it sounded badass not nasty loud but a clean deep loud even though it was a sixer. Everyone who heard it loved it.

im wondering if i can get a shorty x pipe with long tube headers but i dont think im going to be able to if i have the catback duel magnaflow on there that connect right to the stock y pipe ? correct? what are my options?

You won't be able to use that magnaflow catback on it. You shouldn't have gotten a y-pipe catback to begin with though. That's probably one of the big reasons why your exhaust doesn't sound as good as you like.
