listen to Mr. Zip. super six is a great company. you should register on 3.8mustang.com, although i recommend searching the site for what you are looking for before asking such a broad and general question, because the thread you start might get locked and deleted.

if i were you, i'd do a full head, cam, and intake upgrade. if you are doing cams, the heads and intake have to come off anyway, so might as well do them all in one shot. get some high flow heads, a good cam, and port and polish your intake. the 99-04 3.8L came with split port intakes, so you are already in the right place. you can get a very impresive horsepower gain.

depending on what you want out of the car, you may decide to just do a h/c/i upgrade, or you can prepare to do some kind of power adder, or you can do the coolest thing, a 4.2L stroker upgrade with forged internals.

its all based on what you want out of the car and how much you are willing to spend.

What do you have for exhaust? If its not at the least a true dual setup or an H-pipe setup then you need to get that done first as a muffler swap or a bolt on catback is not enough to support mods like heads, cam, intake swaps.

They are many many cam profiles out there so we can't say that you will gain x amount of power from just a cam swap. I would call up comp cams and talk to them as they can recommend you a great cam.

You can swap the cam without pulling the heads.
