Default New guy here wanting some advice

I have an '06 5spd V6. I want to do some mods but I'm on a budget. Since the car is manual it's fast enough for me but you know how it is, we always want something faster. What are you guys' experience with the SCT or Diablo tuner with 4.10 gears? I'm not looking to go too crazy cause it already has some get up and go. I also know those mods won't get me running with all v8s or anything. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

SCT X3 with 4.10 gears and a locking differential would be a great start. If you're happy with the go, you might want to start looking at upgrading brakes, suspension (I would recommend subframe connectors, if they make them for the 05+ cars yet), maybe a few bolt-ons (dual exhaust, UDP/CAI, etc.).

Whatever you do, have fun, and stop back if you want any input or advice!

gears and T-lock and handheld are good advise. but brakes dont need to be touched. stock brakes are fine unless road racing is going to be done regularly.

best thing on 05+ v6's is to do a CAI and handheld tuner at the same time. cause on the 05 + if you change the CAI you need a tuner. and it gets good HP for money.

I didn't mean anything crazy, just street performance pads, s/s flex lines, and a good synthetic fluid when it's time to change it out. Oh, and speed bleeders make it a lot easier to do a brake job yourself. This is what I'm planning for my 03 v6.

friend of mine did a tuner, gears, and t-lock first and loved it. no, he doesn't compete against GTs, but its a fun quick car to drive around it.

Would gears and tuner or tuner and CAI be a better purchase in your guys' opinion? Obviously gears wont give me horsepower but will keep me in the good rpm ranges. I know gears are pretty cheap but how much is the labor for them?

So I'm guessing the CAI and flash tuner would be less expensive because I can do the labor. What type of gains would I get coming from you guys' experience?

well i dont have either on my 07 5 speed v6 yet..... but the tuner by itself is suppose to get like 12 to 15 hp and with a cai i would say maybe 20. that is just a guess though

yeah, you'd get that... at the crank. maybe about half at the wheels. still an improvment, and cheap, since you can do the labor yourelf.

I would still like to get gears but if I got 4.10s would I be stuck in higher rpms most of the time causing me to shift more frequently or would it still be spread out enough?

yes you would shift more.

i like my 3.73's really well. i will switch to 4.10's when my rear goes out, but that is because my car only comes out on weekens or when i just wanna drive it. and it will mainly be to get into my boost faster.

4.10's are usually sugguested to auto's and 3.73's to 5speed.

if money is a concern you can mod the stock airbox and use a drop in K&N....it won't look as good, but should work comparably for very little cash..
