PCV wont help with gas but if you have over 100k Ford says change it. I change mine every 50k as it gets very nasty. The fuel filter is a cheap item that should be done. It can help the engine run better but wont kill the mpg as if its clogged its going to let less gas in not more. How many did you get on this tank of fuel?

LOL, how many miles did you get on this tank of fuel is the question. Its very easy to do both. The PCV valve is a simple pull out old off the valve cover and replace with new one. The fuel filter is easy too and is under the car in front of the fuel tank and takes a special fuel line disconnect tool which can be had for a few dollars at an auto parts store. But I either one wouldn't cause your problem. Though they would be a thing to replace with those miles if they have never been replaced.

welcome to summer blend gas. It's harder to light due to the extra stability the refineries add to allow it to be safe during hot summer months. It's harder to light, doesn't atomize nearly as well and fuel consumption starts to climb because of it. Around October you'll get the winter blend again.
You should also check your plugs. Worn plugs light the fires for **** and cause you to have to stick your foot deeper in the loud pedal.

If you go to the local parts store and get a repair manual such as haynes or chiltons it tells you how to do these and much more. Well worth the 10bucks it costs for the book.
