for sound. id go with like mac mufflers, and an h pipe. might get rid of the cats and get MIL eliminators. also never hurts to get a set of long tube headers. mac also makes those. 2.5 exhaust will prolly be the best. 3 inches stands a good chance of killing your back pressure.

I believe you need a adaptor and from that a catback. I had custom made exhaust for my 04 v6 when I got mine done.

my best advice is buy everything that you will need and take it to an exhaust shop and have them custom build it. cuz if u go long tube headers you'll need new pipes. and i f leave the stock cats on there it will restrict the sound a little bit.

I would just take it to an exhaust shop and get them to make a custom exhaust system for you. Just supply the mufflers you want.

Yes the mufflers will have the most effect on the sound of your v6. Don't expect a v8 sound because you will never get the v8 sound without a v8. And don't remove the cats, I have heard it makes the exhaust sound like crap.

the deepest you can get would be to use a h-pipe (with or without cats is up to you, but no ats its much louder) and use a chammbered muffler this is the only way to go if you want it ot be deep and rumble granted above 3k its gonna sound like a v6 no getting around it.

Oh ok, I wouldnt gut the cats if I still had my v6. Go to stangexhaust.com and go to the forum and listen to some clips of v6's. You have to register before you can access the links though.

i my 1999 v6, i have the flowmaster force II exhaust system #17275. i ordered it off of jegs.com, and it was about $400.00 after shipping and handling. beleive me, its a big change from the stock v6 exhaust. it sounds, really good for a sixer, and i have fouled mostly everyone into thinking my stang is a V8. but some still know its a 6 from either the rims,or my back bumper, or just because they are good at knowing cars. anywayz, i highly recomend it, it bolts straight onto the cat, and goes into a Y pipe into two super 40 series mufflers, and then dual exit with stainless steel tips. here are some sound clips of the flowmaster force II

Removing the cats on a V6 not only sounds like crap, but I think it sounds like those rice rockets roaming the streets. It is VERY LOUD and VERY WHINEY after 3k rpms. I speak from experience.

The best sounding IMO is Long Tube headers, catted h pipe, and either mac flowpath catback or magnaflow catback. Flowmaster sounds good too.

If you just want a cat back, you'll get restriction from your y pipe. Better convert over to dual exhaust and if you want to keep you stock cats (which I recommend unless your building a racer) I suggest getting the Dual Exhaust Adapter which pacesetter makes.

I need an exhaust adapter if i get the H pipe still?? And what do I lose by keeping the stock catback? And what do I gain by getting a newer catback?

If you get the h-pipe adaptor you have to run a GT catback. and you should get a few poines from a GT catback. But most run GT take offs with welded in mufflers like flowmasters or magnaflow.
