single, 1 over each head is a SOHC. a DOHC has 2 cams over each head. the 4.0 is a SOHC

The v6 3.8L Essex engine in our stags is an overhead valve engine with no overhead cams. One cam that drives the pushrods.

If you really want "power POWER POWER" you need to put a blower on it.

you're 16, so here's some friendly advice:

learn how to drive it for a few years. Then add power. I don't know too many 10th graders with the sense gawd gave a box of rice crispies (no offense but you're young... I used to be, then I aged and got more sense and money) so I don't think it's appropriate yet to be tinkering with your car. After you hit 18, then mod the thing and slap on a turbo kit. Then take it to college with you and wreck it in your college-sophomore year like everyone else, instead of in your HS sophomore year when there's more of your life to ruin on one bad choice.

CAI
Dual Exhaust
Gears
T-lok
Nitrous
Tune
have fun I know I am...I have a lot more done but am too lazy to list it all LOL. I started modding the car in 99 when my dad bought it I was in the 8th grade at the time. So don't be too afraid to mod it but please grow upa bit faster then most of your friends will. It'll help out a lot if you aren't an *** on the road all the time.

"Then take it to college with you and wreck it in your college-sophomore year like everyone else, instead of in your HS sophomore year when there's more of your life to ruin on one bad choice."

Seriously? If anything he'll have more to lose if he does wreck it in college.

Oh and try to get a scholarship of some kind. I'm on an athletic scholarship trust me it helps with mod money and money to do whatever you want/need in general really.

typical 16 year old response, but hell i was there too. ok, if you dont like what anyone else is saying fine. just think of it like this, some of us learned the hard way and were trying to help you out. but if you want to blow your money on something you wont have in 4 years fine. think about how many miles your car has and what it can really take. how was it driven before you got it, you prolly have no idea unless you got it from a family member. was it driven nice, and well kept or driven hard as **** and it worn out. as an example, a turbo would be nice, but will the motor handle it. your 2k investment can turn into another 4k real fast if you throw a rod through your oil pan. just think about it, you got nothin but time on your side, **** i'd save my cash to buy a better fast car for when you get out of high school, by then an 05 gt would be easy to find, plus its fast already.

I completely agree with you except for what I bolded. What's the difference between him modding the sixer he has now "not knowing how it was driven before" etc. and buying a used GT? Seems like a pretty poor argument.

Back on topic just do whatever you want with your money bro. Just do a lot of research and have fun.

looking back on it i see what you mean, a used gt could be driven way harder. but hindsite being 20/20, you could find a good condition used car that hasn't been riden hard and put away wet if you do your homework and dont impulse buy. I guess it boils down to putting the money smarty towards the car. do it, but dont over do it, faster is not always better. the faster the car goes, the bigger the crash will be (considering you do crash, and im not saying you will, just making a point).

Well at least he told me to go to hell such that I'd look forward to the trip. In any case, statistically he will wreck this car in the next 2 years, it will be a serious accident, he will likely be injured and will probably injure someone else.

My admonishment wasn't meant to cap his fun or rag on him for being a kid. Fact is 16yo males are dumb as cumm, he's 16... you do the math. I was 16 once and did wreck a perfectly good car but I had the courtesy to do it by myself, out in the middle of the desert and not on the highway. The car was mostly fine but still... I was 16 and being 16 I made a serious mistake. The one thing I didn't recognize at the time was that physics is a bitch and I THOUGHT I knew how to drive well because I had training. Imagine my surprise.... imagine his.

Yeah it's a statistic, but there are plenty of people that are not reckless and do not fall into that kind of generalization. I got my Mustang when I was 15 and had a cold air kit, dual exhaust, rims and several other mods on it before I even got my licensee. It's what I wanted to spend my money on. Luckily at the age of 18 now I have never been the cause of a wreck (I hit a raccoon and been rear-ended) or gotten any kind of ticket (knock on wood). I have done stupid things, but I go to the drag strip when I can and the Autocross course when it is available. Bwesky, do what makes you happy just don't be stupid and prove the insurance companies right. Do the mods that CubanJumper stated. ohh, something that I have always done is save up twice as much money as you need to get the mod, if you still want it in the end then you have plently of money and some to put in the bank.

that last bit is probably one of the best bits of advice I've come across in a long time. nice.

Whatever you do, remember it only takes once. Otherwise... mega power is mega fun, so have some of both but be responsible about it.

Near as I can tell the limit has been raised to just a tad over 600rwhp. That's plenty of ways to get into trouble. Still, the average 6er car is in fact a wimp (average... not yours or anything like it) crying out for a turbo. Then they're pretty damned exciting and snappy handling is much easier to get with a 6 than an 8. Still, I like my 8's.

Nobody has split the stock block, also, nobody has broken the stock 4.2 crank (hyperutectic)

As for Shortblocks, there is a guy just under 500whp now with stock rods/pistons (both hyperutectic)

But the v6 is a slow piece of garbage without some sort of power adder, very few get over 250whp N/A

I was making a point, never mind the exact specs involved, this isnt about what the car can and can not really do.

The bottom line is he is asking for advice on how to mod his car, and what mods to go with. Thats what this forum is about.
