Default Gears... '98 V6

I have a 98 V6 Mustang and I have heard a lot about different gears that are available. What would be the best gears to get and what is the difference between them? I have done a lot to my cars visuals but now I want to start working on its performance, so I would really appreciate your help on this and any other upgrades you think could help me start out. Please keep in mind Im still in college and I dont have a whole LOT of money to throw around. Thanks

can't get them for the V6, he would need the 8.8 rear end to put 3.90's in.

as for the question...4.10's or don't bother pretty much.
