Default A few things now

Alright so, my 18th is a month away.. and I plan on getting plenty of cash..

My 02 v6 is bone stock, and its auto.. but ive figured what i might start on first for it..

MAC Exhaust (I wanna go dual, someone said I might need a GT rear end or something?) And if you know of a better sounding exhaust, throw it out there ;p

K&N intake filter..get rid of that big ugly black thing with the damn rubber peice in it restricting my flow..

X-Cal2 chip..

I don't know about gears..i'm on a auto..so yea.. kinda lost about that.. but i will have cash, and then a job with steady cash flow ..

Opinions on what I should do would be cool.. ;p thanks.

Yea I plan on the full exhaust..

How much do gears/tlock run?

The problem with me doing everything at once is..I'm impatient and once I've got cash it tends to be spent pretty fast.. I've got problems with saving.. ;x

Now that I know that gears and tlock on a auto is actually worth it..i will be planning on getting them..

First though I want the nice look.. ;p

232: Yea I thought about flowmasters..but someone on here recommended MAC..they said it sounded great on their v6.. and alot of guys around here (my town) run flows..thought i'd be different ;p

Another 18 y.o. v6 stang owner here. Get the Exhaust, what ever kind you like. I have Flowmasters but I like others too. Then, since I have an auto and you have an auto I stongly suggest you get the t-lock, gears (4:10 unless you do alot of highway driving and then go 3:73 maybe like I did) and the programmer, I use Diablo(works perfect for me) but never heard anything bad about Xcal 2. I got my t-lock for a little under 100, gears were about the same and then 250 for install. Worth every bit.

Or save all the cash for a GT or college.......but if you want to spend the money, your ideas are right on track.

yeah we all hate to hear 'sell it and buy a v8'
but sometimes it is the most practical decision. I sold my six for an eight and wouldnt regret it at all. My older brother did the same... I was nearly 18 when I got my GT.

Honestly unless you want to run 12's or race the thing seriously a six will do just fine. Either way to get into the low 13's you'll probably need a power adder on both anyways. And why settle for a GT anyways? You cna find a mach or terminator or lightning out there cheaper then a new GT and usually around a couple grand more then a 2 valve.

I would..but.. the 6 is only about 3 months old, got it as a grad present, and on my dads credit (because at 17, i already destroyed mine for a while) I do plan on buying something better eventually.. the biggest reason why I didn't get the GT at the dealership was at the time, gas prices were something like 3.35 a gallon and my dad knows I have a habit of keepin my foot on the pedal..not to mention my insurance

I figure within the next few years I will trade my car in and get myself a GT, or, if my job is going right, a Cobra.

College..bleh. Only reason why I was going to go was for wrestling and baseball, and those ended when I got hurt. So I'm getting a job with communications that still pays well. ;p

Oh boy...I'm just going to say think ahead. And think about how much you could make with a college degree instead of a high school diploma.

sounds like a good plan, and ought to satisfy you till you can save and buy a tlock and gears. after that just save, their no point in sinking money into something you want to trade out of, but at least these few modifications will help the sound, and give it a little more ummph when you press the gas pedal and keep you happy till you can afford something faster.

edit: GO TO COLLEGE!! i am 18 as a senior in HS and would never consider not going to college, unless you plan on not doing much with yourself in life

my old six got much better gas mileage than my GT... both 5spds... and my old six was a 95 so it had the wicked tall rear end gears (2.73s!) no acceleration but always had low RPMs

I'm going to get a new stang once I'm out of highschool and have a better job, but hopefully I'll find a Mach or cobra.. may as well go all out if I spring for a V8..

mustangvsix: I'm a hs grad bro.. got that early..

I considered college very hard in highschool, I had scholarship offers to Ohio, Indiana, and CSUF, unfortunately, problems with my tendons kept me from playing baseball, (I'm a left handed pitcher clocking in the upper 80s to low 90s) and that same year I also destroyed my spine wrestling in practice. Guy desided to spin on my shoulder in the middle of me throwing him, I landed on my ***, his weight slammed down on me and tweaked my spine.. woke up the next morning with a numbness in my lower back and toes.. doctor said no physical activity for atleast a year, otherwise there would be a chance of paralization.

Baseball thing happened spring of my freshman year, and I haven't recovered from it. Wrestling incident happend early sophomore year.

Then junior year I got expelled -_-

But I can make it somewhere in communications.. my uncle is a union organiser here, pretty much guarenteed the job. I won't have the easiest living, but I will have a nice one. College for business is still something I may be looking into.

Anyways back to it all.

Yea I do plan on selling the v6..eventually.. probably after i take over the payments.. which is about 2 and a half years. That way I'll have some credit built up, and I should know where I stand as far as being able to pay for the car.

If I'm going to be spending the money though.. I'd rather drop a few more grand and get more bang for my buck..and just get a Cobra.

I bought the 6 right before I learned my buddy was selling his Mach1 for 19 grand.. after taxes and everything, my 6 was like 15 or so.. (Best price we found in town from a dealership..) and it had less then 33 thousand miles on it ;p

But I figured..why not add a nice sound and a little horsepower to my 6 since i'm going to be having it for a little while right? =p

Before i can try to help you with mods i have to ask what you want to do with the car? how fast do you want to go?

How far will you take it?

You should really think about an end-game type plan for the car before just throwing mods on it.

You want it to look good/sound nice?

do you want it to be a 14 second car? 13? 12? 11? 10? 9?

you want to drag race or do some twisties?

Do you or ever plan to go to the track? often? or just a street warrior?

Thinking about this now will save you a LOT of money in the long run . . believe me.

Teal: I want a good sounding car..

I mean, when I pull up, I'm heard.

I want a good look as well.

As far as the track goes, I beleive the track that was holding 1/4 mile races is shutdown, and the new one won't be finished until March.

I DO want to go to the track and actually race, instead of just being an observer.

As far as how fast, I want to be quick enough to atleast keep up with a stock GT. I'd be satisfied at that.

I am more of a street warrior, but I do want to go to the track, when march hits, probably every friday night I'll be out there, if my car is good for it, I'd like to run it against some other 6's or ricers..maybe even a v8 or two and show that my little 6 has *****.

I sudjest gears+posi (or 8.8 conversion) Then go with a good shiftkit, not to crazy, but nice tight hard shifts. Then go with headerback exhaust aka mid pipe (x or h) i perfer H for sound. Then a couple nice mufflers like MAC or Magniflow.

At that point you'll have a car that feels and sounds a lot quicker then stock. Not to mention between the gears and the shift kit you should have no problem smoking the tires!

At this point i think a good final step would be a power adder. I sudjest Nitrous. It is cheap, you only use it when you want to (aka showing the GT's whats up) If your not a nitrous man for whatever reason i sudjest a used blower, you can find them on v6power.net for a good price.

If you go with a blower you'll need a fuel pump and injecters and a MAF, if you go Nitrous you'll just need a fuel pump. bottom line is nitrous is going to be way cheaper.

Now that the Performance stuff is over you should be sitting with a nice sounding car that can pull 13's at the track. As far as appearence goes I am no expert, but i think a hood and a chin spoiler and some window tint and maybe some wheels will make the car look hot.

There are other options, this isnt the end-all, but if you have any concerns or if you disagree let me know, there are other good routes to go
