torrents are just another way to download files.. its a form of p2p sharing. you need a bittorrent program in order to dowload stuff, such as azureus or uTorrent. either one of those programs will be able to open up the .torrent files and begin downloading what it is you're trying to download

Yea basically.. go download something like azureus .. then when the torrent file comes up..open it using azureus..download will start automatically..

i use bitlord to downlowd my torrents. I only use torrents though when i'm downloading a full cd or movie. Other than that i just use p2p programs. Less hassle.

Torrents work similar to Kazaa and Limewire, except they use a different protocol.

Everyone who has a file is called a "Seed" and everyone else is a "Leech" You basically download the file from any number of different sharers, or hosts, in parts. The program takes each part and pieces them together.

The big difference is that as you are downloading the file, you will also be sharing the downloaded portions with other users.

So as an example, say you have 70% of a file done, and you are still downloading the other 30% from other users. As you download that remaining 30%, you will also be sharing the 70% you have downloaded with other users.

Just be nice and share your file (by keeping your torrent open) for other users to download off of. Otherwise, you make torrenting pointless and we would have to kill you.

thats probably due to a lack of seeds or the seeders limiting their upload speeds. looks like you have a 9mbit line which will definitely let you download at more than 17kb/sec

You are going to be downloading and uploading, which will slow down your download speed. Remember, you are limited by the upload speed of the other people who are seeding the file.

Downloading at 17kbs is probably due to lack of seeders... normally on a well seeded file I'll download at 500kbs..everything depends on if the file is being seeded or not pretty much.

thepiratebay.com
mininova.com/net (forgot which one)
torrentspy.com

All good sites for torrents.. try one of those

stanger: you can change your upload speed and set it to like... 10kbps and set your download speed to unlimited.. that might do something for you...

I'm downloading right now... 300kbs and someone is uploading from me at uh...around 50..
