Help! Is this true or just a myth??
Hey, my friend told me if I take the cap off the end of my air intake that it will allow more air to go through the filter and it will sound alot louder and give more HP, like about 10...is this true???

it sounds a bit louder but i think in 6ers u actually lose 2-3 hp ... thats what ive heard at least ... check this link http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/intke.htm

Hmm, thanks guys, but after thinking about it I will just leave it as it is because It is my first mustang and I dont want to accidently mess something up or hurt my preformance. Thanks Though!

i did it
Well i just tried it this morning on my 97' V6 i cant really feel any difference but standing over the engine at idle it does seem to have a very slightly deeper tone but nothing dramatic enough to feel it driving i dunno about losing 2-3 Hp but with 150hp stock v6 every pony counts :stupid:
CAN ANYONE SAY FOR SURE THAT YOU LOSE 2-3 HP ON A V6????????

i highyl dought by pulling the silencer you would lose HP. all it does is give a bigger area for the filter to suck from. All that can do is help make power. Grant not much but like you said every bit counts.

Took it off my GT, can't say i feel anything powerwise but i think she idles a bit better, which is nice! And just the idea that she isnt ever going to struggle to pull air through that little hole again is nice.

LOL. Looks like I helped alot of people out myself, when I was hoping that you all had the answer for me..lol..only 150 Hp Mstg97??? Are you sure, because mine has 215 HP stock and 65HP difference in a v6 with only one year apart sounds funny....

http://www.mustangtuning.com/97.html
scroll down to about mid page gives you the hp of all mustang engines that year :stupid:
you must of had the 4.6L SOHC EFI V-8 it had 215hp in 96'

no mine is a 3.8 V6 '98...I don't know about that web's statictics though mabey there was a typo....I took it for a tune up and they dynoed it only for HP because I was curious if the previous owner had done anything to it....The dyno read 215 HP and 3 diff mechanics said it was stock....but mabey they were wrong.. I took a halfway descriptive look under the hood and I couldn't find anything.....hmmm...we have ourselves a mystery

yea
Well thats kinda strange. My car hasnt been set up on a dyno so i can only go by web statistics and thats what ive seen so u must of had to have some internals done or some dumb guys lookin at your car wanna trade engines:dots:

If it was a typo then it is a typo on every single page on the web, because they all say 150 stock on a 98 V6. so if you've got 215 you have three scenarios: A) dumb mechanic B) freak Engine or C) modded engine. No matter what the case you should be happy to be over 200 horses.
Sorry your thread was jacked, you may have it back now.
