Help! Is this true or just a myth??

Hey, my friend told me if I take the cap off the end of my air intake that it will allow more air to go through the filter and it will sound alot louder and give more HP, like about 10...is this true???

theponyfactor 05-25-2006 10:55 AM

If you're talking about the air silencer thing..... it will be a little louder, and im pretty sure you get the slightest if not any gain.

spike_africa 05-25-2006 10:56 AM

its called the intake silencer it will give it maybe 1 more hp and sound a bit louder. thats it. For free you cant beat it though.

htownv6 05-25-2006 04:55 PM

it sounds a bit louder but i think in 6ers u actually lose 2-3 hp ... thats what ive heard at least ... check this link http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/intke.htm

Hmm, thanks guys, but after thinking about it I will just leave it as it is because It is my first mustang and I dont want to accidently mess something up or hurt my preformance. Thanks Though!

take that **** out... please it's just the intake, the engine breaths alot better, and the reality is you can def. feel the car gain a bit on the top end ad WOT... just do it, it won't hurt and the engine will growl a bit louder when your at WOT.

mstg97 05-26-2006 09:14 AM

i did it

Well i just tried it this morning on my 97' V6 i cant really feel any difference but standing over the engine at idle it does seem to have a very slightly deeper tone but nothing dramatic enough to feel it driving i dunno about losing 2-3 Hp but with 150hp stock v6 every pony counts :stupid:

CAN ANYONE SAY FOR SURE THAT YOU LOSE 2-3 HP ON A V6????????

spike_africa 05-26-2006 09:38 AM

i highyl dought by pulling the silencer you would lose HP. all it does is give a bigger area for the filter to suck from. All that can do is help make power. Grant not much but like you said every bit counts.

Rejekt 05-26-2006 09:50 AM

Yeah, take that air intake silencer out. FREE MOD!:)

mstg97 05-26-2006 10:46 AM

damn

Damn it really made it sound deeper even driving it with the windows down i can tell a difference I would reccomend for the sound alone :beerchug:

Ghostalker 05-26-2006 12:26 PM

Took it off my GT, can't say i feel anything powerwise but i think she idles a bit better, which is nice! And just the idea that she isnt ever going to struggle to pull air through that little hole again is nice.

98GreenMachine 05-26-2006 03:46 PM

LOL. Looks like I helped alot of people out myself, when I was hoping that you all had the answer for me..lol..only 150 Hp Mstg97??? Are you sure, because mine has 215 HP stock and 65HP difference in a v6 with only one year apart sounds funny....

mstg97 05-26-2006 04:58 PM

http://www.mustangtuning.com/97.html

scroll down to about mid page gives you the hp of all mustang engines that year :stupid:

you must of had the 4.6L SOHC EFI V-8 it had 215hp in 96'

98GreenMachine 05-26-2006 08:50 PM

no mine is a 3.8 V6 '98...I don't know about that web's statictics though mabey there was a typo....I took it for a tune up and they dynoed it only for HP because I was curious if the previous owner had done anything to it....The dyno read 215 HP and 3 diff mechanics said it was stock....but mabey they were wrong.. I took a halfway descriptive look under the hood and I couldn't find anything.....hmmm...we have ourselves a mystery

mstg97 05-26-2006 10:15 PM

yea

Well thats kinda strange. My car hasnt been set up on a dyno so i can only go by web statistics and thats what ive seen so u must of had to have some internals done or some dumb guys lookin at your car wanna trade engines:dots:

Codiddy 05-26-2006 10:39 PM

If it was a typo then it is a typo on every single page on the web, because they all say 150 stock on a 98 V6. so if you've got 215 you have three scenarios: A) dumb mechanic B) freak Engine or C) modded engine. No matter what the case you should be happy to be over 200 horses.

Sorry your thread was jacked, you may have it back now.

mstg97 05-27-2006 10:30 AM

Yea

Yea there is no way yours came stock with 215hp and i have never heard of a freak engine coming from the factory... Is yours the original V6 from the factory?

Ghostalker 05-27-2006 10:36 AM

i have a feeling you got ripped, did you see them dyno your car? or did they hand you a sheet when you walked in?

95bstallion 05-27-2006 01:15 PM

I'm not even sure ill make a number like that with my vortech kit.

Teal_Beast 05-27-2006 08:02 PM

94-98 = 145/150 crank hp, 99-04 = 190/193 crank hpp

my 94 with 8psi from a vortech dynoed at 180whp . . .

Ghostalker 05-28-2006 09:40 AM

i think he needs to get that **** dynoed... my old v6 made pitiful power, but it was a blast to drive nonetheless... its that damn sweet torque curve!

98GreenMachine 05-30-2006 06:42 AM

No guys I am serioius. I walked in to the shop and asked for a tune up/Dyno times. I was standing right there when they did it and they handed me the sheet right of the printer....I have it here somewhere..I will try to look for it and tell you all what it says....

mstg97 05-30-2006 06:45 AM

scan it!

You need to scan that **** because i need to see this for my own 2 eyes
