Say what? You must drive like a Meathead. I have had mine for over two years and I could probably get at least another year out of them! And that is on a 380 rwhp car with 4.10's. Tire longevity is direct correlation to how you drive, how much you drive, and how soft they are.

No and No. But, I don't drive like a dipshit either (not saying you are). But, if are only getting 6 months out of them, then you must either be driving 50k miles a year or doing brake stands twice a week. Either way, you are going to get 6 months out of any tire you buy.

If these tires are only lasting 6 months, then you need to look into the mirror and not blame the tire....that is all I am trying to say.

I should take a picture of my tread for you. I had these mounted in May of 2006, so they are not actually two years old. Bit, I don't plan on buying tires until the summer of 2009 unless they just fall apart. If that is the case, these tires are costing me $30 a tire per year. I may get some now just because they are getting a little harder to find.

I think that they are great tires especially for the price.

i will admit that yeah tire doesn't matter.. I don't burn out very much, maybe 1 time a month maybe!! and i had a pair of BFG gs F1's and they only lasted me 7 months. and my manager has the same tires, except mine started new where his are now and he has had them for about 13 months... its the way you drive!! knowing that i radther buy cheaper tires every year than expensive tires... (also i had the PSI way to high for a few months that killed the tires, the out side still looked really nice, brought it to a place and they put 41 PSI in them) and i'm trying to change my driving habbits

I get about 6-9 months on a set of tires and I only drive 12 miles a day. I take off from every stop like it's a 1/4-mile run and I turn corners as fast as I can go too. I know what's to blame for my tire life issues. A badass car that's fun to drive.

"Tad-Dah".....we have magically determined why some people do not get many miles out of their tires. Unbelievable....I would never have imagined.

tires help the case,
i have actually went through a really cheap pair of tires that were a little over half thread in 2 months.. but thats because all the water we have had about 3 weeks of nothing but a think fog every other day. and wet roads. i just can't help but have a little tire spinning to 80+ that could also be a reason for my bad mpg's but ohh well its fun!!

your magic 8 ball has failed you. I dont get on it everytime I take off.

for those who think that driving style is the only factor in tire wear...

Sumis wear out fast because a BRAND NEW 315-35-17 measures only 4mm off the wear bar, hence the tire's tread wear rating of a low low 160, whereas many more expensive tires have tread wear ratings of 240 or more and those measure almost 7mm off the wear bars. My front tires (275/40/17) last longer...oh, but wait...they start off with about 6mm of tread from new...go figure.

simple case of Sumis cost less and wear out faster because you get less tread depth from new.

Who said they wear out fast? Not me.

OK, so I guess you are correct. Go spend $250 for 3 more mm so they can last another three months. It is like my kids....no matter what I say they still believe in Santa. Hell, they could catch me red-handed and just say "Dad, it was nice for you to help Santa?"

It is not the tires.....say it 100 times...."It is not the tires". But you know what? I would be willing to wager that if you paid big bucks for tires you would stop drvign like a maniac because your wallet would hurt so much. Say one thing about Sumis, you can drive like a nut case on them w/o feeling too bad. Perhaps that alone is the biggest benefit. Get expensive tires and time to drive like granny.

ill bet you the rest of your paychecks for the rest of your life that the 315/35/17 Sumitomo HTRZ starts off with less tread depth than lets say a BFG GS-D3 in the same size. thats all i was saying, so dont compare me to your kids and santa cause it has no bearing on this situation in any way. 6mm is more than 4mm...fact. a 4mm tire will be worn out faster than a 6mm tire assuming the driving style is the same...fact. I dont drive my car very hard...fact. i could keep going...but 4 is less than 6 is all I really need to say I guess.

true...great for the price, but 25k from a set of tires is not many miles compared to the other Z rated tires out there in large sizes.

you forget that tread compounds have more to do with tire wear than tread depth. Tread depth has little to do with tire life normally. It's actually a byproduct of the tread compound's durability.

BTW... average accepted life span for low profile z rated tires is less than 18K miles. The NSX was almost pulled from the market at its height because someone decided that people needed warning labels to that effect after a series of crashes brought on by a lack of traction after the tires were worn to the wires by the idiot owners who never looked at their tires.

Hey, don't be silly. Dah....6mm is more then 4mm. I get that. I never dissagreed with you. But, if the Sumis are only lasting 6 months for you then you must be driving like an freak or you got a bad batch of tires. That part you don't seem to get. Either that, or you are using your car as the local mail truck and driving 20k miles in the 6 months. Why do the rest of us get a lot more use out of these tires?

Go ahead and buy a different tire. I don't work for Sumi so it is no skin off my nose. But don't bitch in 9 months when the $200 ones are roasted too...all 6mm of them.

I will just ask this question one time and one time only. Depending on your response, I may actually aplogize for all my responses to you. "Do you drive very agressively and do burnouts?". If you drive like a grandma, then you should never buy these tires again. Otherwise, don't blame the tires.

I mentioned tread wear rating in one of my posts...the Sumis are lower than the others.

I honestly do not drive very hard. I drive moderately 95 percent of the time....the last set of Sumis I had I did one burnout, and a small one at that. I mount tires from time to time, and I used to do it every day, and I noticed that most tires...Z rated...have about 7 mm of tread depth when new. This is measuring from the wear bars of course. then I measured my 315 Sumis...they were 4mm. that sucks...u get what u pay for perhaps? the 275's were at 6mm new.
