So I live in this semi-urban area. It's more like a tiny town(4000 pop.) next to a mid size town(115k). I have the pleasure of getting to drive there everyday to work. It's sooo much fun, because it's all just a single lane 80% of the way there. I've lived in a big city for several years, and have to say these people are the worst drivers I have EVER seen! And I'm not the only person who thinks so. We also live in the middle of a freakin' cult that moved out here. Yea .

It's a private road and they've put up all sorts of signs, like 10 mph (ha!), do not enter, neighboorhood watch; will call cops (ha! again), etc. They have this big gate leading to their compound, and those people will come flying out of there without looking, and then when I'm driving down the main road the "attendant" will come out and try to stop me to let someone out of there...which I do not. They also enjoy coming around the blind corner on the wrong side of the road, pulling out RIGHT in front of people and going 1/2 the speed limit even on the highway with a shoulder, they won't pull over, drive in the middle of the road so I can't pass, and they yell at me and drive on the wrong side of the road(oncoming) to try and slow me to down to "their" speed limit. Note that I go well within the legal bounds of the law. The cult leader has also pulled across the road and blocked it, because my mother was coming and he apparently thought she was going too fast. Luckily for him she wasn't driving the truck, and I wasn't with her.

So all this happens within about 2 miles from my house...daily. Now I get to deal with all the farmers and old people. Usually it's just people driving 15-20 under the speed limit, and not pulling over to the shoulder to let people pass them. But there's also the stupid people that when given the oppurtunity, WON'T pass them, even though they're riding the person's ***. So then you wind up with 20+ cars in a line behind them, stuck because of them. And once you get past two-three cars in front, it's hard to pass and you're screwed.

And yesterday some cool guy in a Saturn with a fart can came flying up on me and revvin, backing way off and doin' it again, like he wanted to race. He was so close I couldn't see his bumper. I was stuck behind 3 people, so I didn't pull over for him. I did however, wait until the person in front of me hit their brakes...then I hit mine pretty hard for about a second, then accelerated. It was pretty funny seeing the look on his face, but when I got to my turn, he went around me and gave me a "wtf?" shrug, as he proceeded to ride the trucks *** in front of him. I'm sure he'd enjoy totalling his car when he smashes into that guys axle.

The worst part is getting into town, and dealing with the mildly retarded drivers. I understand people make mistakes, but I deal with the same ole crap every single day. People don't pay attention to yeild and stop signs, run red lights WELL after they're red then get pissed when you honk, pulling out in front of people on purpose, *** riding, going unneccesarily too slow, merging into lanes with other cars there without using their blinker, going straight in turn lanes and turning in straight lanes, and my favorite...the people that get pissed when you drive the speed limit. ZOMG CAL TEH FUZZ! On my way home, there's an access road next to the highway. RIGHT before the stupid on ramp is a residential road, and those people always wait until I'm about to get on teh on ramp to pull out in front of me and go 40 trying to merge into 70 mph traffic.

I think the problem is partly to do with a small town attitude, and some seem to think they can do whatever they want and no one will care. Another problem is lack of law enforcement, so 99.9% of the douches get away with it....I'm going to Dallas this weekend, and I can't wait to get to drive in that traffic instead. Sorry this is so long, but so many years of this crap just makes me seriously want to buy an old peice of crap truck, and when someone pulls that crap just ram em. BAM!

on my way to work today, someone in his Colorado (mid sized chevy truck) was tailgating me. i promptly slammed on my brakes. got him to get back a bit.

i must be a tailgating magnet...cause i have a lot of them on the 270 Outerbelt in Ohio.

I know what you mean man, small town people seem to drive like idiots. Just becuase you drive slow doesn't mean your a safe driver. I hate driving in Arkansas, everyone is from a small town and doesn't understand "traffic". 3 mile long traffic jams on the interstate because someone got pulled over. I love driving in Texas for the most part. I have NEVER had a problem driving in Dallas even durring rush hour, everything just seems to flow. All the times I've been to Abeline I was too young to remember how the traffic was but that Cult crap sounds horrible. I'd tip off some feds to possible child abuse get thoes suckers kicked out.

 

Funny you should mention that. The leader, along with some of his cohorts, have been in trouble lately with the law. Some of it is child labor, child prostituion, marrying underage girls, and other horrid things. He's so rich he's able to make bail everytime, but eventually it's all going to catch back up to him. Some of the members are decent people, and it's a shame they've been sucked into his lies. The local sheriff loves to get calls about them though.

 

Sometimes I think it's a shame that we allow people so many freedoms that allow things to happen like that. Even though some of what may be happening, it gets covered up by religion and privacys.

 

I'd look into your idea...buy a truck, pick it up and add a nice, firm grille and you're set.
