So guys i keep reading that you's are running these cars without tunes... i didn't think they would work with out tunes. How do they run...?

I'm trying to decide on weither or not to swap a 5 speed into the car with the 5.4 or leave the auto in there. What you guys think? I'm just worried about the longjevity of the t45 in a 5.4 car.

Mine runs great, the biggest reason I want a tune is to get the shifting dialed in. I'm using an f150 auto, it's feels off a bit.

it'll run but it won't near reach its potential without a tune. There's a lot of power to be uncaged if you know where to fiddle.

In other 5.4L news FPV has been rumored testing the FPV Falcon in the USA..

Interesting... wonder if the 5.4 will stay in it ?

No doubt, I'd pick one up in a heartbeat. My gripe now is the only decent horsepower american car that can still haul a family is the charger.

The GTO comes in 2nd but the seats take forever to move. I'd jump on a falcon.

Anyhow, my first update in a week or two, my guy from the machine shop called just now. I'm VERY glad that I asked them to check out the deck while I was there last week.

He said one side is fine, one side is just a slight bit off but hes not happy with it. I gave him the OK do make it right, so hes going to deck the block. Wonder what it will help on the compression, probably not much since its so minimal, hes only taking .010 off.

Not only will it run ok on the stock tune, but I had to unplug BOTH my O2 sensors and it still runs fine (they hit the trans tunnel and broke). Only problem with this is I'm scared to run it over 2K rpm's.

the rears do no good without the front. You need to get the fronts working... never know if it's doing long term damage till you have a proper tune on it.

I have a SCT pro-racer kit... I'd recommend it to anyone doing this type of thing so you can always just update your own tune if you need to. There are tons of basic tune files available for download and the package comes with a grip of helpful value files. I can be of some limited help with the tuning if you need it. Nothing intense...I'll refer you to a pro for anything but minor tinkers.

The rears don't need to be there at all mind you... they don't actually do anything critical.

2eighty1... make sure you check about using a taller HG to pick the cam centerline back to where it was. It may cause timing problems otherwise... can't be sure cuz I leave that to the pros.

Hey R3D, I was planning on getting it dyno tuned, but how difficult is it to get a tuner like SCT and just do it myself. I know the functions of all the parts and whatnot, but I've never used a tuner before. My shift scheduling is off, I have no ERG system (wouldn't fit), my timing is probably way off thanks to load calculations. Is this a doable DIY tune?

BTW, I know the worth of getting my front O2's working, but I have to drive it in the mean time to get to work. O2's are already ordered for it.

It's not hard really. I'd still take it and have it fine tuned after you put the base tune on but the base SCT tune should cover you well for fuel and timing curves and then it's all fiddling from there. Turning off EGR and such is pretty easy. If you get the pro-racer kit make sure and get the handheld setup and not the chip... chip is a bitch.

well... they're sorta the same thing for the time being. (EDIT: Mine is pretty heavily modified)

What I think is going to be the case for a while is that we've created a couple modifications and various porting options that allow the 4.6 manifold to work very well with the 5.4 and a set of those new and improved adapters I speak of so often. HPS is making the plates with a custom port shape that I spec'd which should increase flow by 15% or so over the RR plates.

In addition to the updated plate design we've created a 13/16" spacer for between the common plenum and the bottom cover that'll increase it's volume by a full liter and adds a spot for a stealth nitrous nozzle. The spacer isn't ready yet that I know of but it will be soon.

Everybody needs to call up HPS and order a set of plates... ready, GO!

What's the price on the HPS plates? Do they include gaskets or hardware? My RR plates suck *****, they don't fit correctly. It sounds like I got the one set that didn't fit right, but they need replaced never the less.

They should be about 350-375 like the RR's. I have the original plates so as long as they machined them based on mine they'll fit perfectly. Mine do

Default 2v adapters

I am sure it is in here already, but does anyone make the adapters for a 2v swap?

in short... yeah. Reichard Racing and hiperformancesolutions.com both make them. HPS makes a newer design but either will do well.

i noticed HPS has no mention of the plates on their website. does that mean its something that we'll have to make a specialty order for them?

it's not a specialty order... they're making them. You'll notice the web site isn't regularly updated.... they've been busy.

call up, ask for Bob.

I've been picking up pieces here and there, but I'm mostly working on supporting mods. K-member, lower control arms, full length sfcs and what not. The block, stage 3 MMR heads, and vt stage II cams are sitting in the garage though! Not to mention accompanying mods of 75mm throttle body and plenum, BBK cold air intake, under drive pulleys and long tube headers (going to reroute the offending pipe to work with the 5.4l). I'm going N/A so I have to squeeze every little horsepower out of that engine!

Also I need links to all 5.4 articles and scanned pages if possible. I need all the magazine pages scanned if anyone has those and can hook me up with them? The links earlier are broken now and I had forgotten to save them but I need some information from those links.

PM me your email addy... I'll send you the original 2 articles from 5.0 & SF.

Hey blitz... what rotating kit are you looking at? With that combo you'll be rivaling me for power.... that'll be sick.

Speaking of which... I'd like to start the planning event for a national meet in St. Louis for all the 5.4 powered cars around the country. I'm thinking sometime next spring. Thoughts?

BTW.. the purpose of the St. Louis location is so that we can meet at a White Castle and I can finally have a slider prepared fresh. Me and a buddy have agreed to do our own "r3dn3ck and scooter go to white castle" and video the trip, event and return. I will want video footage from all attendees. Going to make a feature length movie out of it.
