So I get my after market exhaust installed there about a month and half ago.

Warranty reads:
All other products and workmanship are warranted for ninety(90) days from the date of installation.

So I go back get my exhaust welded on because it kept popping out of the hangers they do it no problem the guy tells me its covered under warranty there was no charge.

I call today because since that day theres been nasty rattles at certain RPMS.

He tells me my after market exhaust is not covered under that warranty only their parts. (WHICH IS COMPLETE BULL) so I call up customer relations:

"Hey under the 90 day warranty after market parts are covered right?"

"Yes the workmanship is covered too, everything is."

I give her the name and location of the midas and she puts me on hold and calls them up.

After she has a talk with them she gets back on the phone and goes "Sorry sir it only covers their parts"

"What about the workmanship?"

"Sorry sir no"

"So even thought they screwed up the install its my problem?"

"If you go have it checked out and a shop and can prove they damaged your car"

What complete crap.. honestly midas is worst I've ever dealt with.

 

Your first mistake was going to midas for a cat-back install....why didn't you got to a small muffler shop. Those guys are usually good and they are awfully cheap. As a rule of thumb I try and stay away from big chain shops like...jiffy lube, midas etc....plus they usually have dumbasses working for them who have no clue what the fawk they are doing...

Yup.

I had a Midas guy try to make a pipe to delete the muffler on one of my old cars. Pretty damn simple really.

At the point I saw him weld two pipes together at a 45º angle (which he wouldnt have had to do at all if he cut it right) i called him off the job.

Never went back.

What should I do? They are obviously lying about their warranty..

 

it'll end up costing you more trying to make midas pay for it than just going to the lil shop you shoulda went to in the first place and having them fix it...so just go find a nice lil shop and have them do it right

 

You would have been better off installing it yourself. Cut off the old and install the new one with a few clamps. A few hours at the most. They shoulda just adjusted it so it didnt pop off the hangers. The trick is to leave as many of the clamps loose as you can and get it all in place with as little as tension as possible. I'd imagine one of the pipes that loops over the rear axle is in contact or real close to the frame. I had a similar issue with my SLP cat-back after I put the LT headers on but it was a simple matter of loosening a few clamps and giving the pipe ample clearance. You might wanna crawl under there and see if you can see what the problem is that way you can make sure it is fixed.

If it were me I would do everything I could to get the original shop to fix it. You paid damn good money for someone to install it. I would look under the car, see where the problem is, and go down to where they installed it and prove to them that it is workmanship. Make more phone calls, ask for the boss, ask for a manager, if you cause enough of a scene in front of customers you'll get results. The bottom line is its a faulty workmanship, and they did it. Just maintain a respectful but very firm attitude and they should fix it. Or as a last resort if you paid with a credit card, call customer relations again, tell them since you paid for a proper install and didn't get one you will be calling your credit card company to reverse the charges. If no results then call your credit card company and tell them to reverse the charges and they will fight it for you, or you'll get a call from them to get it fixed. And then for the future go to a local guy you know will get it done right.

 

whoa...dont try and do a thing yourself if you dont have any mech knowhow....i still remember when i was a kid i tried to do a simple spark plug change on my first car... the plug slipped out of my hand fell into the timing belt...i couldnt find it at the time so i went and got another plug...finished the change...started the car and the plug ripped the timing belt almost in half....i tried to fix that myself and somehow broke the tensioner pulley....a simple plug change ended up costin my entire summer salary.....better you take it to a shop

 

Dude, its exhaust. No moving parts. Just simple pipes,nuts, and bolts. What mechanical knowledge would you need for a cat-back. If you have a few tools, can read instructions and turn a wrench, you're set. This isnt the case for everything. A Cat-back it probably one of the simplest mods you can do that give you a few hp and also a few more smiles to the gallon.

 

go find a charley's/roy's/frank's(insert name of guy here)'s muffler shop and have them fix it. small shops that specialize in exhaust are the best to deal with in my experience. The labor's not expensive and all those guys do is deal with exhaust all day

 

Man seriously I don't know where places like Midas, Jiffy Lube, etc find some of their help. Most of the time guys go there to try to save a little time and effort and end up spending more time and hassle waiting or whats worse is when you have to walk out there and show them how to do it. My dad did this not long ago at an oil change place. He actually had to show the guy how to get his oil filter off. hehe... To top it off they cross threaded his drain plug. I do all my own stuff that I'm capable of. That's weak how Midas won't honor their labor. I've never been to Midas. Aren't they really expensive though?

 

Yes they are, its just so irritating knowing that they won't get slammed for lying and cheating their way out of their warranty.

Midas does suck. Your better off going to your local mom and pop exhaust shop or your local speed shop. Midas overcharges too.
