I'm close to due to get a new oil change. and i was wondering if it would be worth it to go ahead and UPgrade to Royal Purple. oil, tranny, and gear, i know it will be expensive but do yall think its worth it.. or just to get the motor oil?? and we use 5W 30 right??

can you run that sure, is it worth it... well i sure as hell wouldnt pay much for oil at all.

 

thats gear oil not engine oil and i think its 75w90 but dont take my word for it.

Depends on how much protection and mileage you want to get out of it. Redline outperforms Mobil 1 since it can be changed almost every 20,000 miles, has better protection, but costs $7.50 a quart. However, changing your oil every 5,000 miles w/ Mobil 1 synthetic offers the same protection. Screw the dealer w/ oil changes, you tell them one thing and they'll just stick to the usually (i.e. ask for synthetic but they put regular).

 

yeah i was just thinking of getting a synthetic, and i heard royal purple was really good, what woudl yall reconmend.. i have a 97 gt with regular in it right now, and it ahs 94,XXX and want good proction or something that might even help my engine..

 

anything syntheic would be good like vavoline, moblie 1, castrol etc... i use mobile 1 and have in most of my cars and trucks that or the motorcraft if they have it in stock at the time.

Hey, fluids are important, but when is the last time you heard of a motor blowing that was not somehow self inflicted? Do you need to motor to last for 500k miles, or is 250k just fine?

 

i want it to last as long as possible.. because i want the car to last me through colege and right now i'm in h.s. still

 

Actually, Castrol Syntec is technically not synthetic. I heard this a while back so I don't remember why but I think it's because base is derived from regular dino-oil.

 

It is a blend if I recall.

 

If its really hot like here in South Florida use 10w30.

 

does anybody know how that penzoil platinum full synthetic stacks up? I normally use mobil 1 but i've heard some people say mobil 1 isn't all it's cracked up to be. Also i live in the california desert so we get 100+ degree days most summer, is 10w30 okay for the 4.0 sixer or should i stay with 5w30?

 

i live in texas, and the weathers is suprizing, but during the summer its gets uo to 100+ says in 95+ range almost all summer

 

Mobil 1 is kind of a standard. For years, it was considered as the best. If somethng is better, does it really make a difference? I don't know.

I think pretty much any name-brand full syn is probably as good as anything else.

As far as you guys who live in hot-*** climates, I love the summer so guys like us who live in the North can make fun of you. Whne I lived int he Poconos, it was in the mid 70's and low 80's all summer, and in the 60's at night. 100+ weather is unbearable.

 

Yeah, but at least in Texas is dry. In Jersey, 95 feels like 115 due to humidity. However, Upstate NY (Rochester/Capitol region) doesn't get hotter than 90 and isn't too humid so it's almost perfect.
Also, I don't think 10W30 is good for our engines due to the clearances since they are so tight and the bleed rate of the lifters was designed for 5W20. I think 5W30 would do the trick for higher temps.

 

You want 10w30 as you dont need the oil to be that thin on startup due to the hot climate. Two local well know engine builders have told me to use a heavier weight due to our weather.
