Default Cold air intake (2001 GT)

So Ive come into some cash and figured id do an easy upgrade with a new intake. Now I was looking on americanmuscle.com and saw these two cold air intakes.

Steeda one
http://www.americanmuscle.com/stgthiairkit.html

Generic one? doesnt say what brand
http://www.americanmuscle.com/mugtv8pocoai.html

I dont really see any diffrence in the two, but then again im a newb so maybe im missing something. Anyone have any suggestions and or other cheap alternative intakes.

Thumbs up

To be honest, i'd hold off on a cold air intake for your stang. Start off by removing your air silencer and drop in a K&N filter. Save the cash and buy you some something like a mid pipe or something like that. Or you could save a little more and buy you some gears, a chip and you'll definately be having fun them!

Thats what I did. k&n is garnage though so i switched to fram air hog. no need to spend the extra money on a cold air intake.

If you insist on getting a CAI then get the JLT ram air intake.

cold air intakes are somewhat notorious for sending tha MAF (mass airflow sensor) out of wack... due to the bend before it...

You won't feel any gains...
It won't be an improvement over the K&N + air silencer delete

bottem line... CAI (cold air intake) is a complete waste of money AND it might make the MAF throws codes causing your engine to run funny...

save your money for gears or exhaust parts

I've never had a problem. I got my BBK on ebay, cheap and I could feel a little more power. The non PI motors need all the help you can get. So,that said,if he can get a good deal, buy it.

01 is a PI motor. don't buy a CAI for anything but bling value and you won't be disappointed. Avoid fenderwell CAI's where there's a big bend right before the MAF sensor as those are the ones that throw off MAF readings.

I have a steeda CAI and I like it... but it's just bling.

BBK is a brand, not an abbreviation.

Buy the frickin' CAI. I took off the silencer and put in a K&N air filter and I could not feel any difference. Then I bought and installed the JLT True Cold Air Kit and I can now feel the power increase and more pull when I punch it. Plus, I do not have any problems with the big bend right before the MAF in my fenderwell. Hell, that is like a 4 or 5 inch tube letting in more air. More air equals more power. It may not be an awesome amount of more power but you can feel it. Is it worth the $200? That is up to you and your money pocket, but when you pop the hood and see that massive glossy tube it makes you say "sweet man."
