Go with a single monster 12 or 10 in the biggest box you can fit and feed 1000+ watts on it. Id say look at resonant engineering, adire audio, elemental designs, ascendant audio, digital designs, DLS, diamond audio, memphis audio, sound splinter, and the list goes on and on. I used to compete in SPL and SQ and I can tell you these are the top notch brands and you wont find them in best buy or walmart.
Talk to anyone who actually competes in meca, slap, db drag, usaci, iasca, ect.. and they will know of all these brands. People who say "ive never heard of that brand, so they must suck" are usually retarted idiots who think their walmart system is the coolest in the world.

That are a budget amp.
I used to run resonant engineering in my beretta. I had a re XXX 12 and RE 35.1 Limited Edition hitting 145 dB on termlab's mic. Id say check them out.

Sounds like you got a lot of choices, so I thought I'd throw in my little experience.
Right now in my truck I have a 700 watt amp. Pushing 2 JL audio 12 W3D4.
I love 'em.
When I first got this system I started with JL. Then I decided to make a change. When MTX came out with the Chrome 8000's. How ever they blew. In fact 4 of them blew. I blew 2, sent the amp off to have it checked and then eventually blew 2 more. All in about a 4 week period. So I decided MTX was not for me, However I know some people that love MTX. I then changed to Alpine R-type. Used them for two years before the surrounds finally came off (most likely because of the Alabama heat in side the truck during the summer). So I went back with JL's.
To me, the JL hit harder and rumble better. The MTX's on my set up hit a ton but didn't rumble. The Alpine just had good sound, not much hit.
I am not saying the MTX and Alpine are not good. I have heard some awesome MTX systems, but for what I want the JL worked better.
I would love to throw this system in the stang but I am big on everything looking clean and I love just listening to the exhaust rumble.

No JL's
Ok this is my thing here - I have a small side buisness doing this... GO WITH KICKER L7's hands down... get refurbs on ebay.. they take less air space ... look better ... last longer... and hit harder than any other sets... Jl is good dont get me wrong.. but w7's are a waste of time and money... the box required for a w7 is very complicated and very expensive... I wouldn't play with w7's unless you know wut your doing
Subs:
memphis= crap
sony= mostly crap but ok if u have a COMPLETELY sony system and use a capacitor
infinity= good SQ but not much else
rockford= all crap except for the dual magnet stuff
ford mach 1000's= suprisingly good not the best by far for good for how cheap they are
jbl- crap
kenwood- crap unless they are DB's
volvenfagg - crap
DHD - purddy go
kicker- the comp vr's hit as hard as the L7's - also quite cheap - best deal on ebay in my opinon
orion-crap
rockford amps- the best for the money
jl-amps the best if your loaded
any amp is really ok as long as it has a THD rating of less than .09 and meets the minimum RMS not peak rating of your subs...
really the kicker comp vr's with a good rockford amp are your best bet for *** pounding bass and not alot of money.
also - make sure your head unit has an individual sub control - if not your wasting your time
10 vs 12 vs 15 - its your call - 10's have the best all around - 12's delivery mega bass with moderate SQ and 15's are for big bass and not much else... if you drive a coupe - high quality tens will do you right... convertible 10's are good (wut ive got) but 12's are better (wut im getting) - one 15 in a coupe (if setup right) will bust your glass... - alot of fun if you ask me - lol I think most mustang owners wil be very happy with a high quality set of tens like L7's - they maintain your trunk space - sound good to you and you can crank em up to sound nasty while cruising... GO WITH A SEALED ENCLOSURE... but if you build your own use lots of liquid nails and make sure its air tight!!! - sealed enclosures are the easiest- best sounding boxes and dont require alot of space 1 cubic foot of volume is a good rule of thumb...Good luck ask me if you any have questions

Dont try and be special... most the time off brands are a big pile of ****
I competed and those are booty brands haha... some have some good stuff but you have to be careful bc those companies make alot of junk and they are very hard to get serviced/return if you have a problem, unless they are your sponsor go wth a mainstream brand you'll be much better off - bTw I can desigen a box for you and send a pic for those look for ideas... if you want

I did have 2 15's at one time never used them though. The boxes were slanted and fit right in there. 2 kicker comps . I'm personally a kicker fan soo i think 2 12 inch solobarics will keep you happy for life. I have 2 12 inch audiobahns in there now. I know people say there crappy but the real flame q's are good imo.

i agree with pimpmustangGT, kicker sub/s with fosgate amp/s. this is what I have been running since like 04-05 and it still hasnt given out or lost any sound quality. I am impressed with this setup. fosgate amps can handle some serious abuse.

...Okay, umm....this thread has been dead since 2005. So I'm a little curious why it was brought back???
But, since it's here. JL Audio ftw when it comes to subs. Not cheap, but I'm a strong believer that you're paying for the quality.

Subs in a mustang
You can easily fold down the back seats and then take off the bracket where the seats screw into and easily slide your speaker box in I have 2 l7 12s in my 96 cobra and they fit perfect with alot of room as well, and they beat down. Need any help on stuff let me know
