Default Microfiber Scratches

We recently bought a new 42" LCD TV and it has a shiny black finish that shows dust like no tomorrow. I had washed all of my microfiber clothes say a week and a half ago and they were still sitting on the top of the dryer due to my laziness. Not thinking anything of it, I picked one up thinking it would be a great tool to wipe the dust of our new TV and what do you know, but as I ran the cloth along it sent little hairline scratches all throughout the finish.

What the ****.

I thought this was the reason for using microfiber so you didn't get scratches. I want to pinpoint why this happened so this **** doesn't happen on my car. Perhaps they became dirty from sitting on top of the dryer for over a week? Or are they just shitty clothes to begin with? I bought them at Walmart... I know.

Thoughts? I'm assuming a combination of the two.

The less expensive towels are pretty much a one shot deal. I also learned this the hard way. Sorry!

I know this is too late but use the electronis wipes for like cleaning your laptop screen.

You most likely have cheapo ones. You have to get quality microfiber if you don't want it to hold in dirt in the fibers, or go to complete **** after you wash them.

Cobra Microfibers are awesome.

I was either thinking Cobra or PB. I love PB stuff and I plan on trying out their complete arsenal next time I do a full detail. Lesson learned the hard way I guess. And got it Tuff. That's all I'll be using from now on.

My boy has a bad habit of touching the TV, so i got his grubby handprints all over the bottom of the display. I use a lightly damp paper towel to clean it off and a dry paper towl to make sure it is dry.

never got a single scratch.

X2

I, too, use the ever-so-complicated paper towel technique. It works every time with no problems.

Did you wash the towels with something else? I accidentally had my wife put the towels in the laundry with some other stuff...turned out to be the dogs blanket and I ended up with little pieces of nylabone stuck in my towels. Luckily I caught it before I used them. Now I just use all my towels and wash them all at once without any other laundry.

No I always wash all my MF towels/wash mitts together on delicate with hot water. Dry on low heat until needed with no fabric softener sheets. Come to think of it I did included cotton terry towels in the mix that I use to wipe up goop like brake dust; perhaps that's it.

if you rub hard enough, any MF cloth will scratch. I use walmart ones for my job...as long as I dont press down super hard, they dont scratch. They have been washed 5 or 6 times now.

I never reuse MF towels, just get a new one and use the old one for cleaning some greasy stuff then trash.

This.

Sad thing is, anything that's black is a bitch to keep unscratched forever

Well, if you get quality MF towels then you can wash them. You NEED to use specific MF cleaner solution. Regular detergent/bleach will damage MF towels and they'll be useless afterwards.

Never had any problems with DP's products and it's the only MF wash that I use.. Pinnacle is the only brand that I've slightly had better results with, but it's twice the price.

Haven't tried the one that you posted, but I imagine that it's probably about the same.
