Engine Cleaning!
yea so its been like 3 years. and engine has never seen a cleaning.
anyone have any good tips on cleaning?
I plan to just spray it all down with SIMPLE GREEN degreaser...and then spray it off with a garden hose, and dry it all out with a leaf blower. good plan?
i will cover the battery, altenator, and air filter, fuse box from getting wet.
will all other parts be ok?

Get it a little wet and soak it down with a degreaser. You dont have to cover anything, just try not to have the alternator floating in water. Let it sit in degreaser and use a PRESSURE WASHER to spray it off. You dont have to cover anything...

i noticed with the garden hose that everything comes off if you let the degreaser do its job. whether it be simple green, spray nine, or greased lightning. if you want it to get really clean you can get a steam cleaner and do it that way. wash your engine before you wash your car.

I touch up my engine at each washing... then every so often I'll detail it. I use some degreaser, a couple brushes to get into the tight spots. I also plastic wrap the fuse box and alternator. <- clean them by hand later. I do not pressure wash anything, I have flooded a car doing this in the past (got water around the spark plugs)... so I opt'ed for the slower manual job from then on. I will use the high stream pressure that I get from my standard hose sprayer.
Here is a good link for detailing your engine... for additional posts, check the first link in this forum group.

Just drive the car around for an hour, then head home and have a 5 gallon bucket of icewater ready, pop the hood and dump it in, not all at once, and get as much on the block as possible.
ignore any cracking noises, hisses, snaps, bursts, or groaning. it is perfectly normal and safe.

hahaha what a re-re
i think your serious about this so ill give a lil more advice. let your engine cool off for about 30 minutes before you put the water to it. dont use a pressure washer i had bad experience with those things as well. im talking about those self car wash places that has the engine cleaner setting yes that thing fugged up my ford aspire.

I use to work at a Used Car dealer, and when they would get new cars they would always clean everything including the engine, And what I always use to see them do was Cover up the battery, fuse box, and any electrical parts with garbage bags and put masking tape around it to hold the bags, then they would spray it down with a Preassure cleaner for a couple of minutes to take all like the big blogs of mud and nasty ness, and then they would spray degreaser all over the engine and let it sit there for like 10-15 minutes and after that they would use the preassure cleaner again
