Default Sound system problems

Ok I have a Sony head unit, 2 12" Kenwood subs, and an Alpine amp. Not too long ago every once in awhile when the bass would hit my system would flash off and come back on. Now it's doing it almost every time the bass hits so I can't listen to anything at all. Anyone know what's causing this? Also it was proffesionally installed by Bestbuy. Before going through the hassel of setting up an appointment and taking it back up there I wanna try and fix it myself.

Also I've heard theres a way to change your wiring so your lights won't dim with the bass at night, anyone know anymore about this?

I am no electrican and I don't know anything about audio, but I figure there is either some kind of a short that could be sensitive to vibration, or there is some sort of a power supply issue.

Edit: The way I see it, the bass could be hitting, causing a wire to touch something it shouldn't be touching, resulting in the system flash. Just start by checking the wires and where they are ran.

Also, how long has it been since you've had the system? If you recently got it installed, take it back up there and tell them what is wrong.

maybe you need a power cap. If the bass is too hard and the amp too small that might make it shut off. also what he said^^^

I'm thinking it could be a power issue. I've had it maybe 3 months, not very long. It's weird though because sometimes I can have my subs all the way up, 100x louder than what I've been running it today and it doesn't do it. I turned my amp down a bit, I'll try turning it down some more.

just check all your wiring, make sure its getting a good ground, as for you lights dimming at night, you can try a capacitor but its probably not going to help much, you will probably have to get a better alternator or upgrade you wire size from bater to alt and batery to chasis and maybe you power cable to your amp,

yea me and a friend are going to pull everything out and seal some of my god awful rattling panels with silicone. One of my friends said that he just did something to his wiring and it quit dimming his lights?

one of the tings that you should check, is your amp fuse, if that is loose it will cause some problems, also what size wire are you running to the amp?? but just try looking at the wires, and the faceplate, if some thing is just a little loose...

there could be many things. honestly, ive been thru it all with soundsystems. recently mine was kicking off when i'd start driving and it turned out to be a loose remote wire at the HU. But kicking off sounds like they messed up the ohm load if all ur connections are good. Id reccomend setting the speakers back up to a 2 channel mode, im figuring u have the amp bridged. and u cant get out of the lights dimming unless u add a cap or second battery or H.O. alternator. I had a cap, i no longer use it because i dropped my cadence system,, it was literally ripping bolts out of my car and stalling the engine out, u can try a cap but ive heard bad things and they are explosive.

Thanks a lot guys and girl I'm not sure what size the wires are, Bestbuy picked out all the stuff they said I needed and then I paid nearly $150 for installation so they better have gotten everything right. I found out it's not my subs that are causing it, I turned them completely off last night and it was still shutting off just running the speakers. I'll check my fuses and everything and we're gonna pull out my head unit tonight and check everything in there and seal off that super shitty HO case they give you, all that thing is good for is rattling and driving me crazy. I'm starting to linger towards selling the system when I get my new car and use that $1k for performance addons.

u spent 1k on a system!! JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZ! and if it kicks off running no speakers, then wow, i dont know what to say. I say take it back and have them replace it all. becuz an amp cant really draw current unless speakers are rumbling with it. Basically if i change subs i can get more draw out of my amp if they are bigger and flex more, kind of a convection thing. But wow, kicking off with no speakers connected odd. I say check your remote wire if it looses power, but if ur meaning goes to protect mode then id say somethings been vibrated loose on the amp. hows it mounted?

No I meant I turned my subs off and it was still kicking off just running the factory speakers. we're going to check all of it tonight, my friend is really good with this stuff. the amp is mounted on the back of my sub box, that's what the guy at bestbuy did. I don't think anything is being vibrated loose because when it shuts off and come back on it shuts back off before the subs barely even hit. yea it was about 950 all together with the installation

well theres the first problem, those idiots mounted it to the enclosure, So for 950 you should have a HARD hitting system, Im sure its screwed something in the amp up. thats what i was meaning by the vibrating loose. but still clarify on the kicking off.. protect mode or loosing power all together?

I lose power all together, my stereo will flash completely off and the power light on my amp goes off. the problem is more than likely in either my amp or the wiring to my amp.

remote, power, or ground. and its at the HU. no problems from there back. The connection problem at the HU makes the amp kick off because a remote wire runs from the HU that tells the amp to turn on and off. So, if the HU has no power the AMP will kick off. Im guessing its in that. the remote is in most cases a blue wire sometimes has a white line on the blue. power generally red. ground varies. but check at the HU.

Yea I'm almost certain it's in the head unit, that's the first thing we're gonna pull out. Didn't get to do it today, he's a firemen and they had 5 consecutive calls tonight. Yea it's the blue wire, I'll definitely check that out. thanks for the help bro, I don't know hardly anything about this stuff

ground wires always black, switch power red, constant power yellow, and remote blue, check all those make sure if they used krimp caps that they are on good check the pins in the harnesses also, but you payed 1000 dollars for your subs amp and install? i was an installer at circuit city for 2 years sounds like you overpayed lol

I wouldnt exactly call best buy professional I have seen some work some of their places do and very sub par .... if they dont know what they are doing they just wing it with not the best results i have seen .... which is why you have to pay more to go to actual audio professionals
