Default '08 GT Shaker 500 cd changer

Anyone had any problems with the Shaker 500 6-disc changer? Here's a summary of mine:

At times, the player will attempt to read a disc, then read "bad disc" and eject. This happens with cds that are already loaded and have been playing with no problems. It also happens sometimes when I try to load discs.

This problem happens most frequently when I've traveled for an hour or so, park the car and get out, then get back in about 45 min to an hour later. It reads and plays fine on the way to a destination, but then when I get back in the car to come home, it starts spitting out discs and won't re-load them. This happens with both burned discs (CD-Rs) and scratch-free store-bought discs.

Of course, I haven't been able to replicate this problem at the dealership, yet. If you're aware of similar problems I would appreciate your comments.

I have an 05 with a Shaker500, and have had that happen to me probably 3-4 times. There is a TSB from Ford about, so it might be something that you could\should have your dealer look into fixing for you.

Thank you! I've taken it to the dealer once, but the player worked fine on the way, the whole time it was there and on the way home. My options seemed to be (1) have it pulled and shipped off for a couple of weeks for diagnostics and repair (or wait for a replacement if it can't be repaired), or (2) bring it in when it's actually malfunctioning and then they will either repair it or order a replacement so I won't have a gaping hole in the meantime. I opted to not have it pulled for now.

The TSB info you provided should be useful. I'll pass it on. Thanks again!

No problem.

By the way, here's a link to a list of TSB's that apply to the S197 Mustangs.

The one that applies to you for this is 05-10-19.
