Carbon Fiber?

Where can i purchase carbon fiber body parts for my stang? I'm thinkin of loosing a lil weight by gettign a carbon fiber hood, fenders, etc. my question is where can i buy these parts that look like oem parts for a stang?

I wouldnt suggest CF on a mustang.. just looks odd, thats my opinion though.. Plus, have you seen what happens to carbon fiber when its in the sun for long?? Take it from me, my buddies have Evos and STI's w/ a whole lot of carbon fiber, and if you dont constantly protect it, the clearcoat will crack and youll have to haveit all redone not too far down the road..

But as long as you protect it and keep wax on it and all that special stuff i think youll be good.. lemme know how it turns out

I actually don't like the look of carbon fiber all together, in my opinion. But if you paint it, then its the best of both worlds.

Jack The Ripper 08-08-2007 01:32 PM

RetroGT, yer buddys probably bought the cheapest shit carbon fiber they could find.

lol...

VIS makes good stuff. They are pricey. The hood i got is from Reflexxions, they make some pretty good stuff too. Expencive though, thier CF hoods go for about 700. Got mine for about 500 cause they stopped making them.

If you find a carbon fiber hood for under 500 yer probably getting junk.

as for carbon fiber not looking right on mustangs, Personally i like the way it looks. we have several people on here including lance03svt who had a CF Cobra R Hood and Venom who has a CF hood.

if you WAX a CF hood you void the warranty, you NEVER wax a carbon fiber hood. lol... that is probably why yer friends hood got all cloudy.

Hey Jack, did you lower your car? It doesn't look like it in the pictures. BTW, the shaker setup looks awesome. Maybe your CF hood is an exception. haha.

i think the car is parked on a lil bit of an angle, i bet the driver side tire is up in the wheel well... and yea dude everything looks awesome, ya did a good job on installin' it! and did u post about it after ya got it all done?? i may have missed it...

Jack The Ripper 08-08-2007 03:26 PM

Yes it is sitting at an angle sort of up on a curb in my culdesac which makes it look all funky. lol.

anyways, yeah this is the install thread and all the work that went into it. check it out.

anyways, enough hijacking this thread i guess.

Blue Thunder,
I dont know where to get carbon fiber fenders, but i have seen carbon fiber trunk lids from VIS, various companys make CF hoods like VIS and Reflexxions. A lot of these can be found on ebay or online stores. I have also seen CF side scoops, CF hood scoops, and CD mach 1 grill delete on Ebay. VIS also makes a CF Cobra R front bumper. lol. that is a terrible bumper unless you have an airbag setup to raise and lower the stang though.

i dont know about fenders and stuff though.

my hood is pretty light. the stock GT hood is about 40lbs, my hood weighs in around 20lbs.

CF is definatly a way to lighten the car, but it is a very expencive as well.

blackstallion25 08-08-2007 08:06 PM

my question is how do you protect a cf hood from the sun?

Depends on the finish.

I dont know much about longterm exposure to sun, my car spends most of its time in the garage at home, and if i DO drive it to work i have a parking garage that protects it.

VIS uses a UV coating that keeps it from dulling, and covers it in a clearcoat to keep it shiney and they reccommend waxing the hood with the rest of the car.

Reflexxions on the other hand uses a gelcoat and will void the warranty if you do wax the hood. The finish with the gelcoat is extremly shiney. I would assume the best idea is to find the manufacturers reccommendations to keep the hood looking fresh.

Nah man, his carbon fiber lip alone was over 600 dollars.. i dont call that cheap.. lol he has an evo.. hes done alot of carbon fiber work.. his still looks brand new, but ive seen CF thats a yr or 2 old and it tends to mess up..

unless they just bought the cheap shit,

venom 08-09-2007 06:32 AM

I dont think CF panels are worth getting on a street car. You may spend 2k and more on CF parts and with that money you can buy a used SC. My hood cost $1000 and you get what you pay for when it comes to CF. Im not sure how many know this but our stock hoods are fiberglass. If you want to get a CF go for it but getting fenders and trunklid is a waste on a street car.

I just found a place the other day that carries several CF pieces that I was curious about as well. The place is www.tiger-racing.com and then go to the "for sale" section. An example of these pieces were in the new Modified Mustangs, its the red 1996 Cobra NASA car. I know its not your model but they do have a good product but the price is kinda high.
