Carbon Fiber hoods

Carbon Fiber hoods
besides being a bit lighter, and just looking cooler. What are the advantages of having a carbon fiber hood if any over fiberglass and other materials?
I plan on getting a cowl CF hood from Vis.com.
Is it a good uidea to have it clear coated/uv protected

I've had the VIS Cobra R Carbon Fiber hood for close to two years now and it has started to fade. Granted, it has set out in the Texas heat for that long as well (I tried to buy/rent the garage from the parents but they won't budge haha.) Becca's carbon fiber cowl hood looks great too. Other than keeping it covered there wasn't much I could do to keep it from fading. It still looks awesome in different light, lot's of depth in the clearcoat, and the CF weave is pretty much flawless, Cervinis underliner also. This summer I am going to get it re-cleared and get somekind of additional underliner to protect the hood from engine heat.

Matt, I wouldnt go as far as saying CF is insanely stong. I've personally visited AeroGear USA's facility due a friend of mine being close friends with the owner and seen the material first hand and the Fiberglass hoods are a bit more stronger. The only different that VIS does from anyone else is they put more resin jelly on their hoods to make them a bit thicker, the quality is nearly equal to all other CF hoods. Also VIS gets' their CF material from the same place as everyone else since the military owns ALL of the CF material manufacturers. All in the end your paying for that VIS gel badge on the underside of the hood. Buy a CF hood from Carbon Creations AKA: Extreme Dimensions and your getting the exact same hood your getting from VIS just at a lower cost.
