Tachometer Wire
I have a 2004 mustang gt and I was hoping that someone can tell me where I can find the tachometer wire to hook the rpm window switch to. I want to hook it up under the hood. Is this possible? And if it is can you tell me where and what color it may be? Please help.Oh It is a Baker Electronix RPM window switch. I need to find the engine speed signal wire that goes to the tachometer.

You need to first locate the main harness. It is top side of engine close to the firewall on the passengers side of the car.
There should be a blue/white wire coming out of the harness. This wire needs to be cut. After you cut it you take the solid red wire from your adapter and connect it to the blue/white wire thats leading into the harness. Then you take the red/green wire from the adapter and hook it into the blue/white wire that is leading to the ignition coils.
Then you should have a black ground wire coming off the adapter and also another wire that is connected to your shift light's ground.
Well thats the way MSD and Autometer say to install it. Good luck! I finally had to take mine to the shop and let them put it on. Maybe I can look and see how they wired it for you.

You wont be able to put it under the hood unless you extend wires though. Ill look today and see how you hook it up to the main harness.
Yes that green wire will work off the ECU.

So what you are trying to do is run the green wire from your window switch directly to the ECU signal wire? I always thought that you needed a tach adapter to get the correct signal for the window switch to operate on. But, this window switch you are trying to use might be different. according to the advertisement for your window switch you dont need a tach adapter. The same company also sells tach adapters too though. Which makes me think the ad is misleading and that you may end up needing a tach adapter. Just try to hook the window switch up to the ECU signal wire and see if it works. Just for safety of the window switch you can put a fuse in between there.

Ok I looked at how they wired it and heres what I found.
The White/Blue wire is not used.
There is a large solid RED wire in the middle of the bundle of wires. Thats the wire you need.
There is also a large dark solid PINK wire in there. Thats NOT what you want. Make sure that its solid red.
If your window switch does not need a tach adapter then you can just tap into the solid red wire.
The MSD Tach adapter I have has a solid red wire coming out of it, and that what you connect to the piece of solid RED wire leading to the main harness.
Then I have a Red/Green wire coming out of the tach adapter. This is connected to the large solid RED wire leading to the engine coils.
From there you just use a common ground for the tach adapter. After that it WILL work.
Shifting will be much more fun for you now.
