supercharger for 4.6
I need someone who has supercharged their 4.6 to please give me some opinions. I recently got a raise and figured what better way to spend my extra cash on a supercharger. i want to know, mainly, pricing on a used system + everything else i would possibly need for one to work (tune, fuel rails, aftercooler...). Also, how easy is it to find a good used one. Recomendations (vortech, novi, kenne bell.....), everything i could possibly want to know please. also, if anyone what to sell please let me know. thanks

5 grand to do it right including labor and supporting mods.
Other than that... you need to do a LOT more research if you haven't seen 10,000 opinions already. Search.. you'll find it.
Blower cars are higher maintenance, more prone to breakage, drink more gas and get you more tickets. Why don't you take the raise money and put it into your retirement account. Then when you retire you can buy 5 blower kits.

You have nitrous aspirations and blower... are you planning to use both? If you really want that kind of power to be reliable the single best piece of advice I can give you is: Take the money and buy a forged shortblock.
You will eventually smoke the stock motor. Your times say you practice so I'd move to a stronger foundation sooner rather than later. After that... decide where you like the power (low rpm, mid, high) to be concentrated and ask the same question. We'll have much better advice with more info.

forged bottom end... then blower. I'd go kenne bell. Power comes on early and stays on. They'll make near identical power per pound of boost as centrifugals but they hit boost just off idle.

I also have an 00 GT and recently purchased a vortech t-trim.
I was also looking at buying a used one but talked myself out of it b/c of not always knowing the true past of the unit.
It's alot of money to spend on something that could of had a rough life.
I found a new one on ebay from a company, and I am very pleased with its results.
If you can do the install yourself, it could save a ton of $$.
I know the vortech came with comeplete instructions along with everything that needed to be upgraded, fuel injectors, pump, etc...
For numbers at 10 lbs of boost-
367 hp 360 tq. at the wheels
1/4 mile times jumped from a mostly stock 14.08 @ 100mph
to 12.63 @ 113.78 (Supercharger kit, dyno tune, 4.10 gears, et streets)
Also as far as dependability.
I drive this car on long trips almost every month, 400 miles one way.
gas mileage is right around 24 mpg. average speed being 70 ish
(if you can stay out the gas its decent on the wallet for trips, but that just isnt the fun we're after)

Well, you have to start somewhere, but here are a few thoughts.
If you want to just toss on a blower, and are happy with a sub 400 hp, and want a quality kit, then get a Vortech. If you have furure plans to make sick power, then you can use a KB or a Novi but you will need a built block, serious trany upgrades, and suspestion mods. You can get 380 rwhp pretty cheap, but 500 hp+ gets really expensive.
You can mitigate your risk with a used unit, but sending it to the factory to have it tested etc.... Or, buy from a reliable source, but there is no guarentee. There is also no substitute for a good tune.
I got my blower used and so far soo good (knock on wood). Even a good used unit will be $3000 then add $1500+ for install and tune.

I spent $1650 for my kit new and $75 bucks for a dyno tune. After sorting out the belt slippage issues I am very happy with the kit. After having a centrifugal I kinda wish I would have gone with a KB or turbo, for one to be different but also for the low end power. I mean if you drive on the street like most of us do the low end power of a KB or turbo would benefit us more.

Procharger is the way i would go...actually i am going procharger...just bought one today.
I found a kit and checked the serial with my buddy and it checked out so i bought it...
a prochager at 8psi will be making around 380hp...vs the vortech...and you dont have to tap the oil pan, simple install.

yeah simple install till you get everything laid out and your like where the frack do i start. the instructions are retarded. dont use the walboro pump use a focus, navi, or ford GT pump.

and i am gettin GT pump...

KB cars are at full boost right off the line. Centri users have to build RPM to build boost. A KB pushing the same peak boost as a centri will probably win all else being equal. 4.30's seem like a lot of traction ickieness to me for a twin screwed car.
I'm not saying that centrifugal blown cars are back-half pullers like maybe a turbo would be but I'll take the twin screw. Efficiency is just about the same and boost is there from the start.

Hey that's cheating...........I could take on your car if I win the traction battle. I would have to hope that you spin, spin, and spin from a line. But, I would never want an altercation with you from a roll, that's for sure.

if you notice in the 1/4...centri vs. screwed, most of the times centris will win. screwed cars are nasty on the street though, and if anything i would say you would want to race from a roll with your novi because you are closer to boost.

in my experience, depending on the car the gas and the tune you can expect from 325-ish to 365-ish rwhp from 8lbs. With a blower all the intake and exhaust bolt-ons you have become suddenly worth more than cold **** and will definitely affect the total output.
Just because some dude got x amount doesn't mean you'll get the same. Figure over 320hp and take everything after that as a bonus.

I don't like ATI a terrible lot. I like their heat exchangers but that's about it. I personally prefer vortech or paxton head units but to each their own. That's a lot of personal choice right there.
