I being a proud black man myself, also have strong feelings on this matter. It's a whole differnet issue to me having EXPERIENCED matters first hand. While i believe being "born black in a white world" holds true, it's not a reason for anybody to feel held down. People who believe AA shouldn't be in place should really look at the big picture here and put themselves in the other person's shoes. Having the upper hand all the time, can make you think differently than a person on the low end....

I got a african american based scholorship and had to work DAMN hard to get it. I don't see how you can say that i got it because i was black. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? I had to go through the same routine as anyone trying to get a scholorship (essays, interviews ect). There are no hand outs in this world. Every job i've held...I'VE WORKED DAMN HARD TO GET IT!!. AA isn't racist toward anyone. It's been here for years and i don't see any shortages of white people getting jobs. If that were the case, we'd be in an uproar. I've always said, "political facts are just someone else's strong opinions that you agree with", and this thread just proves that to me.

So the reason you didn't get one of those MANY scholarships is becuase you weren't black?!?!? funny becuase i got a "non-black" scholarship also and didn't have a problem. What was i thinking.....i didn't get these scholarships becuase i did well...it was AA. How simple minded of me. Thank you AA!!!! You put me through school. I would have never overcame if it wasn't for AA. THANK GOD FOR AA!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

All i'm saying is i've had to work just as hard as the next guy.....if it was just becuase of AA that i got my job....I didn't work any less for it. Which is what some people are implying.

 

And thats great, I commend you, but there are people that use the system for their benefit. The system IS flawed, and it is my opinion that there SHOULD NOT be black/white/hispanic only scholarships, THAT is racism/discrimination.

Wrong...it shouldn't offend anyone who shares your opinion. Unfortunately (for you) not everyone feels the same way you do (get used to it, it happens) and this is where you end up offending people. I don't know if anyone has told you this, but (you may want to sit down for this) your opinion MAY not be the same as everyone else's. I have no problem with you voicing your opinion, but don't do it expecting everyone to agree and then acting shocked when someone disagrees.

I'd love to stay and chat some more, but it's time to go to work so you can rest easy at night...unless of course it bothers that a minority is helping to defend this country. Rest assured, I was not "hired" due to any AA process, I merely decided to do my part to help keep your right to speak your mind.

Stop with the reverse racism stuff. Yeah maybe affirmative action has went further than it was meant to, but your lone example of one hispanic owned company getting a contract with a higher price, does not mean it is a total failure.

I understand that sometimes a black kid may get a scholarship with a 3.9 when a white kid had a 4.0. So what, it all boils down to the people who run the scholarship can give it to whomever they want.

That being said the majority of people getting scholarships are white, no one can argue that for a minute. If a company, rich black guy, rich white guy, whomever wants to give a scholarship to only black kids, so what.

If you ever have a scholarship you can give it to only white kids.

Some of you are acting like we white people have it so rough because 2% of white kids get their scholarship taken away by a minority. Please, walk a day in the life of someone else and then come back with how things may change.
