Well, I got tired of the ugly look of Black on Parchment....so I made the first changes this weekend......

i dunno why i didnt see this thread when you first posted it. how long did it take you to paint everything? what about the dash? did you do it in the car? post more details... there's a couple people on here that have done this and a bunch of people thinking about doing it. so far im the only one who has done the dash, now you make number two.

 

It took a while but not as long as I figured. I started at about 11am and finished up at about 6pm.

Here's a basic step by step:

1. Everything that was removable I removed (console/vents/switch panels), but the dash I did in the car. I taped off the windshield, gauge cluster etc. and just started painting.

2. Once every thing was removed I took rubbing alcohol and cleaned everything very good (making sure to get all dirt, armor all and grease off.

3. Then I put a light coat of paint over everything (kindof like a color prime coat).

4. After letting that dry I put a thicker coat over everything and allowed to dry.

5. After this I took a very fine sandpaper and lightly went over the areas that the paint looked like didn't want to stick very good.

6. I let everything dry for a good hour and then went over everything again with a final coat.


I am deciding now if I want to put a top clear coat over everything, I haven't had any problems with scratching or peeling so I don't know if I will or not.

The paint I used was this: Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric I was real iffy about paintint carpet, but the areas on the door panels that is carpet turned out great, the carpet itself is evenly painted black and it still feels like carpet (not a pile of goo like I thought it would).

I almost used this: Mirage for the blue parts (the blue/red combo), but we all know what blue and red mixed makes...purple, and I didn't want a purple accented interior.

For my first time doing anything like this to an interior I would have to say that the results were better than I expected, and diffaculty wasn't near as bad as I though it would have been. If I can do this anyone can!

 

Looks like you did a really good job with this. I am not feeling the blue though. It reminds me of something a kid would do to his Honda. It still looks good...just not my cup of tea. You seem to have a lot of patience and ***** lol. There is no way I would have the ***** to paint my interior. Good work man.

sounds good, for the primer did you actually use a primer paint? or do you mean you just did a light coat of the interior paint. your interior looks a lot glossier than mine so im wondering if its because of the primer. i used the same stuff you did to paint everything. i've had it done for about 3 or 4 months and have had no problems.

 

I just used the paint for a primer, and like I said put a very thin coat. I've heard of people doing this before and figured I would try it. Turned out pretty good! And it is pretty damn glossy, which the paint just said black not gloss black so that suprised me. And that is why I don't plan on doing a clear coat unless that would tone it down a hair, because in direct sunlight it's bright as ****!

Oh and, MahnotinkneeGT I know what you mean about the blue, but trust me it's a lot darker in person than in the pics, once I get the rest of the interior finished it will be more suttle.

 

When you take those pics...PLEASE take some new pics of your car for your sig. I can't get a decent sig to come out that I am happy with. Get some good daylight pics with out any bad glare or anything.

 

I did the same thing w/my 95. I think the only thing I did different was to scotch brite w/alcohol first, then the Adhesion Promoter then paint. Didn't have to do the upper dash tho. Looks good. Should be a thread of two heree u;nder this screen name w/my pictures.
