The directions said to unplug the fuel pump and electric fan fuses, I did and it said something like cant unlock ecu. Where are the fuses located and what numbers are they. Thanks

I've never heard of unpluggin anything. The way I and my tuner does it is you just plug it in the port with the car off. Then the XCal will say turn key to on position. That's basically it and then choose and flash your tunes.

Just looked at the little paper that came with the XCal, this is from that:

"How to use the Xcalibrator 2:

Plug the OBD-II connector into the port under the dash of the vehicle you wish to program. Some vehicles may have a panel that needs to be removed to access it. With the key off, use the up and down arrows to navigate through the main menu."

EDIT: Just saw the line you were talking about, I've never done that and have never had problems, not sure what that's meant for.

I have no idea then, I've just done what I've mentioned and previous posts. I wander if something could be unplugged or something like that nature and it's not picking up a signal of some sort.

Do I have to download anything to the device first?

There should be a tune already on there if you just bought.......its straight foward....plug in scroll down on the menu to your custom tune put key in start position and it downloads and flashes the unit and you take the key out of start position......if its not working then you have a hardware or software issue I suggest you contact SCT........

well it doesnt say custom tune it says 2004 mustang GT tune but I would assume that is the same thing.
I tried it again and all it came up with was ECM unlock FAIL turn key off and press SEL.
It wont get past that. Any more ideas?

Scrolled down to my custome tune said"2004 Mustang GT tune"
Pressed select
Said"PLease wait"
Then it said turn key on but do not start
