what are the turbo lightnings doing for intakes? Where do the L boys hang out on the web? Maybe I can get some ideas there. I've seen a bit of traffic at lightningrodders.com and a small amount at svtperformance.. any others?

that sounds nasty

I haven't been able to post much on my setup or work on the car period for the past week because I've been in the hospital, no need to go into the details, but once I get through a few things I'll be getting back to work and getting the car back together.

First things first is build my front suspension up like I want before I even think about dropping the motor in there. Looking for the right setup currently, but needing a tubular k-member, a arms, and coil overs. I should pick all that up after I sell my heads and intake. Then I have a couple wheels and to get rid of and when they're gone, I'll be building my rear end and rear suspension.

After that's all together, I'm going to get the motor ready, will be picking up a set of TFS heads, some cams, not sure which ones yet, and not sure which intake setup I'll be going with yet but whatever people are making the best numbers with when the time comes is what I'll be running. My block will be getting all new internals, still trying to decide if I want to build it for FI or NA but I have a while to figure it out.

After the motor is put together and dropped in place, I'm almost positive a new hood will be in order, then I'll be needing new front and rear bumpers because my stock ones are trashed. New paint job after that and the car will be ready to show and race.

One thing I'm wondering about right now is if any of the aftermarket lightning blower setups have more clearance than the stock one. If I can use some 1" drop mounts, and a 00 cobra R hood and fit one of the setups in there, I might consider doing that but I still think that is a long shot so a centri' supercharger would probably be a better option.

These are just a few updates, I'm on hold till I sell a couple things and get back to work though so this is going to be a long build and I'll have to just provide updates as they come in.

I didn't think this day would ever come but I finally made it happen.

Now if I really wanted to, I could transfer all the parts over to the new engine drop it in and wait for my manifold and be done with it. Unfortunately I don't like doing things the easy way and it's going to be months before this thing ever sees the road again.

edit: I was looking at those awful excuses for headers on there and was wondering other than having a set of custom LTs made or using some shorties if there were any other options. I heard that the Bassani midlengths would work but I'm wanting some confirmation before I make any purchases. I might just tow the thing to the shop after I get the motor dropped in and have a custom set made. I'll have a tubular K in there then so they should have plenty of room to work on it.

link?

another question. I'm trying to get the water pump off the old motor so I can transfer it over. I should have thought about this before hand and loosened the bolts on the pulley while the belt was on but that is no longer an option. What can I do to get the pulley off so I can swap the water pump over?

Oh yea, I gotta go pick up some metric impact sockets because I don't have any to get the flywheel or crank pulley off. I know the flywheel is 15mm, but what size is the bolt that holds the crank pulley on? I don't have any metric stuff big enough to fit on it so no way of checking.

nevermind about the last 2 questions, got the water pump swapped over to the new block, i'll pick up some impact sockets tomorrow and get the crank pulley cleaned up and transferred over and then the waiting process begins for my hardball'r and some more money so I can get my new k-member, tfs heads, and cams. Then she'll be complete and ready to roll.

those look great, I'll definitely work with them on trying to get a set. I really don't feel like installing them after the motor is in the car so I'll try to take care of it before it's together. Would be awesome to drop it in with them already attached and not have to worry about driving over to my exhaust shop to have my x pipe modified to work with my factory manifolds.

I'll definitely be running aftermarket cams, probably TFS heads too, but those might come later.

ftp makes a matching x-pipe for $200 if you get it at the same time as the headers. thats awesome condsidering that a standard x-pipe cost close to that.

I paid 180 for my UPR x pipe at a local shop. Sounds like a good price to me.

I imagine there is a long waiting period for them though kind of like the HPS intake that I've been waiting about a month for.

Got my car together and running. 2v Navigator longblock, PI Intake mani with RR adapter plates. Goal with the car was to build it and make it look factory as if Ford offered the 5.4L in GT's to begin with. Came out really nicely.

Still need a tune but as is I can already tell a noticeable power advantage in the first couple gears, but the REAL gain I notice is when i click into the taller gears, as it pulls them smoothly and effortlessly.

I deleted my EGR in the process, and I've got a bit of a sluggish throttle response, especially until it warms up, so I'm hoping its EGR related. Im anxious to see what this thing will do with a tune.

Heres a few pics. After I get this thing tuned I'll post up some track times and dyno numbers. Gotta put back some more dough first haha

Question. What are you guys doing for an upper alternator bracket? I'm just using the lower two bolts right now. The factory bracket doesnt lined up in anyway, and the way it has ridges stamped in for strength, I'd hate to go cutting away on it and compromise it's integrated. You guys just custom making brackets or what? Thanks

I don't have an intake yet so I don't know if I'll have that problem. I don't have a factory alternator bracket anyway so it's not a major concern knowing that I'll have to figure something out. I'm just hoping that the hardball'r will allow stock alternator brackets to bolt up so I can just pick one of those up.

The adapter plates and added deck height of the 5.4 in general presented a problem with the bracket alone, and on top of the the adapters seem to have shifted the intake forward so boltholes wont interfere with water ports. Therefore, the bracket is up to high and the boltholes are about an inch forward from lining up with the alternator.

The two lower bolts have been holding the alternator completely steady so far, I've put about 150 miles on it since the swap. However that bracket is there for a reason so I'm going to have to come up with something in the very near future.

I wonder if this is only an issue for people running intake adapters.
