never got the chance. it was a nonPI with bolt-ons. i do know that it could pull slightly on a NA cobra with exhaust and a couple bolt-ons. thats was 4yrs ago and this project now has run into 2.5 yrs.

hey guys. its my lucky day. my buddy totaled his navi and will sell me his engine for 200 bucks.i drive a 2001 gt 5 speed and need to know what i have to swap out to make it work. i know it will be a pita but i couldnt pass on this sweet deal.
from what ive read ill have to lengthen some wires in the harness, buy an aftermarket k-member and some shims, get an 8-bolt flywheel, and sullivan/custom intake.
can u guys help me with anything im missing!!!!!

r3d, might be time to give the shop a date to finish or return you car and money for failure to deliver as promised. Got any paperwork to back things up? Email trail? If they don't deliver don't just get the car, get your money back....

i kept the 8 rib powersteering pulley, it looks funny but it works just fine.

problems
The leakdown test would show you IF/WHERE the problem is. Inject a known ammount of air into the cyl and see how much leakage you get, if its excessive(20% and above) listen for leaks. Some say anything over 15% is terrible, this isnt what I have found in the past. By going from 25% leakdown after a rebuild of 5-8% I have NEVER noticed over a 15hp difference. You still havnt said if the test was done cold or hot(cold usually yeilds lower numbers), how many times you cranked the engine over, battery condition etc...
So, yes my advice is still do the test when the engine is still warm, if low add a capful of oil to the cyl and see if it changes. If it does, sounds like a ring/ring seating problem. If not go strait to the leakdown test.

8 rib
Everything else I have is 6 rib. I just wondered if anybody have a problem putting the 6 rib crank pulley where there was an 8. i will be putting my 6 on.

I'm just finishing building my Navi based 5.4L DOHC engine up and it's going into my '01 GT this Thursday, hopefully. I had to buy $969.93 worth of additional parts from Ford (that priced is appreciably discounted off list by the way) but I was building a new engine using the Navi short block. Here's stuff that you will almost assuredly need: (most prices reflect discount)

In addition to that stuff I replaced the heads, cams, oil pump, water pump and went with the Aussie Boss 290 intake. I'm also going to use a Cobra Radiator which you may have to do as well. I got mine new for $200 shipped and I believe they're still for sale at that price if you're interested.
You should be able to swap over your injectors and fuel rails but don't quote me on that.
You're going to have fitment issues with your AC lines. They simply cannot stay where they are so be prepared to reroute them. The good news is the AC compress will work fine with the Navi.
You're also going to have to cut the cross in your H-pipe so you can make it a bit wider. The stock will work, just know that you're going to need to cut it, sleave it and weld it back together an inch or two wider.
Are you planning to use a cowl hood? I ask because unless you're using Cobra motor mounts, shims on the k-member and still cutting into the hood a little, a stock hood just will not clear it. At least it won't with the Aussie intake and that thing is quite short so I question whether the Sullivan will without some extraordinary measures.
Just to clarify that, I'm using the stock hood but only with the Aussie intake and after shimming the k-member, using Cobra engine mounts and cutting into the hood where the scoop is. It can be done but I suspect the Sullivan may be a problem, especially if you're not shimming and using different engine mounts.

Like the others have said, there are no diffrences in the 4.6l -5.4l way the crank pulleys bolt up. So bolt that 6 rib on!! Use a new crank bolt!

well guys thanks for all the info on the 4v but it turned out to be a dud. i got excited before i went to check it out. he completely destoried the front of that navi and most of the stuff on the engine so im back to doing the 2v swap, which im still stoked about

Something is defintely not right here. Does it run?? The something that is wrong could be the diagnosis that is being done. You should tell the shop to figure it out and fix it like it should have been, or you will take it somewhere that can. You have a lot of $ in this to just have it screwed up. Based on what I've read, I'd take it out of there and sue them for $ back if needed in small claims. There is no reason for that. It seems that they don't have a clud ehat they're doing.

Those require a custom made intake to work on a 5.4 as the only stock intake that will fit is the GT and GT500 supercharger intakes.

According to my sources it won't fit either. The Sullivan is the easiest intake to match but in order for it to work you ahve to spin the motor to 7400 or above and give up a lot of torque/hp below 5k. The Sullivan is also not a good intake for a stock Navi motor.

I think I read it would with "minor" modifications but Karkraft took the page with that info down. But.. if you've got pockets deep enough to jump on those, I'm pretty sure a custom intake wont be much of a problem.

Doing the swap
I am glad I stumbled on this site. I will tell you a little about me, my car and what I am doing. And I would love all the immediate advice I can get.
My 2002 GT is my daily driver. Current issues include a liquid repaired head gasket leak that is slowly getting worse on the driver side head, and 2 heli coiled plug holes on the passenger side head that continue to blow out.
My buddy just gave me a free 2000 model 5.4 from an F150. has 85,000 miles on it and a hole in one head. SO here is my plan
Yank the heads off the 5.4, take the motor to a shop and have them go through and assemble fully forged (please estimate a cost for me) take into consideration this motor is in good shape, just the heads were bad. Get this one re-assembled. (what heads should I use? I can get my hands on a set of PI heads from a 4.6 in good shape for cheap) and also purchase either adapters, or a new intake for the motor. I want to get this thing assembled on a stand before I yank the 4.6 from the car.
Now help me out with the little bits from above, and list to me what else I will need to have done or on hand ahead of time prior to this swap. I would greatly appreciate it.
I know that it will drop in, with the 4.6 stock headers, most all stock components. But are there any little pieces you can think of? I want to get this done in one day

well im gathering up parts to finish the lightning supercharger set up. i was told about this site

basically it is everything that is needed to put the lightning set-up on a 5.4 in a lightning.
you dont have to buy a complete kit from the site though. i have given him a small list of parts that were needed and asked for the prices for the parts and he responded quickily.
im hopeing that maybe if i can find out what things of his swap kit will work on a mustang and what parts wont maybe i can get him to come up with a new kit...one that will be made for putting this set-up on a stang. i just emailed the idea to him and told him that i would let him know what different parts i would have to get and i would give him that list.
basically im saying that if someone else wants to go this route hopefully they will not have to hunt down everything like i am and they can have a eaton kit with ease and maybe i will save someone a little bit of trouble. ill keep you guys posted.

Is the 4.6 PI 2v head from a 2002 GT the same exact head on the 5.4 2v? Cams and all??
I ask this because I have a bad passenger head on my 4.6, and a bad driver head on the 5.4 I can use one from each to make a complete motor without having to pruchase heads. If that would work

The 2002 4.6 head will likely be a Romeo and the 5.4 head will be a Windsor, compare the # of valve cover bolts on the 4.6 head to find out. If its a Romeo head I believe it will still work as long as you use the 4.6 valve cover.

1 day is a tough run but it can be done. get the intake, skip the plates. You'll need a 8 bolt flywheel or flexplate. You'll also need all the gaskets and a set of head bolts. You'll need a new set of main and rod bearings but get those after you have all the machine work done. Use H-series bearings. Clevite and FM/Speed-Pro both make them.
Get rid of all the heads you have and grab a good low mile set of PI heads or any ported PI head.
A fully built bottom end will eat up 2500-5K pretty fast. For the best deal on a rotating kit call up The Mustang Depot in Riverside, CA http://www.themustangdepot.com/servlet/StoreFront . Rods are <300, pistons and rings around 500 or so.
Get rid of all the heads you have and grab a good low mile set of PI heads or any ported PI head.
