Any of you guys had a problem with vaccum leaks with the adapters? I'm getting a P0174 and I'm pretty sure its a leak at the intake gasket.

Shoot the mating surfaces with some propane or carb cleaner. There will be a change in rpm if there is a leak.

yep on the vacuum leaks. And coolant leaks. And patience failures. Buy illwill's intake. Maybe he'll work a plan with you.

Glad to hear its not just me, I kept messing with the tune, and it didnt seem to do any good, and it threw that code after I swapped the O2. I swapped the injectors side to side so I'm pretty sure its a vaccum leak.
I'm tempted to go ahead and get that intake but I'll pull it back apart and try again and if I cant get it to work right I'll go for it. I need to drill a hole for the other Coolant temp sensor anyway..

On a side note, with the EGR turned off in the tune what about the DPFE sensor, can I take it off all together?

well any of you guys doing the swap i suggest you have your exhaust put on before anything else. drop the motor in the k-member then drop the k-member as far down as you can to attach the headers. sleepingGT's long tubes are test fit and my knuckles are hurting today. vids of fly-bys are soon to follow....

grab up illwill's intake. IIRC he even port matched the outlets to the heads. If not, grab a die grinder and a few sanding rolls and whittle off the casting lines and high spots.

TFS is still finalizing pricing but has said they will be over $2000. They are working on a cnc ported version, and also 2 cam grinds and will be offering 'top end' packages like they do for the 5.0.

Not sure, sorry.

Anybody know about parts interchangeability between PI and SVO heads? Are any of the valvetrain pieces the same?

K guys... Please take magazine quality pics of your car, include engine shots and no more than 300 words about your car. Send them to cburnss at gmail dawt com and I'll collate them into a nice little submission and send that to MM&FF. See if they'll do one up on us.

valves are different diameter, not sure about stem length. Should use the same lash adjusters and any 2v modular cams, seals, springs, locks, and retainers. You doin sumpin?

well the ported intake and LT's made hunters tune alittle goofy. feels better down low now with a quicker response. tomarrow i'll lift it up and look for leaks before it makes a dyno return on sat.

The wheels......they always be turnin'......

I'm pretty sure my oil consumption problem is in the heads......SVO castings are around $400 each....if much of the valvetrain transferred over might be an interesting thing to consider.... Sounds like I'd at least need valves though, which brings the total to at least $1000, which is getting to be too much....and I'd have to see if I could redrill either my headers or the heads to make my lontubes work..... *sigh*..... Can't anything just be simple??

WELL RED YOU WIN!!!!!!!!!!

WHEN YOU INSTALL THE NEW TFS HEADS WITH YOUR SETUP THERE'S NO TELLING HOW MUCH POWER IT WILL MAKE. BE PREPARED FOR 6500 RPM PEAK. i would expect well over 400hp. if you can rev it shoot for 6900. 400rwhp.

5.4 2v is going to dominate modulars now. cubes and revving power.

dont get me wrong 5.4 4v ported is still the king. but unported 5.4 2v vs. unported 5.4 4v and the 4v loses.

with TFS heads and supporting equal mods. these heads outflow 04 4v stock heads and really out power 3v.

Fer cripes sakes.....you fellers sound like you're talking about the 2nd coming of the LS1...... Can we at least wait until they are available before proclaiming it the best head ever?

This would not be the second coming of the LS1 because the LS1 sucks. This head on the other hand is going to turn the 5.4 2V into the second coming of the Cleveland, in SOHC version. In fact, it still amazes me that the solution to the 2Vs problems (lack of valve size due to small cylinder bores) was not something that Ford implemented. Heck, that's why Ford made the original Cleveland heads, to get bigger valves in a 4" bore. What Trick Flow did would probably have been a cheaper alternative than the solution Ford came up w/ by designing a new head w/ 3 valves (though the 3V also implements canted valves). Shame too because the modified 2V heads w/ VVT would have been more at home on the trucks more than the 3V.

this is TFS we are talking about. the company that made its name on prostock BBF. they do not announce products they are not making.

secondly, htis is the second coming. there is more flow available from 1.84 intake valve. with an aluminum intake and increased runners pro's will find the limits. TFS was inhibited by the stock port opening. modders are not. a tunnel ram matched to a larger port = plenty of power.

It was a joke man....LS1 owners seem to think they were assembled by the hand of god...

Also, if you think the LS1 sucks you need to pull your head out of the Ford colored sand....

I didn't say they won't come out, but the facts are that they are months away from release and no one has even seen any kind of preliminary dyno numbers, so lets just whoa back on the proclamations a bit until we see them actually run. PI heads can fit a 1.84 valve and have made upwards of 900rwhp, so its not like we are finally getting an aftermarket 5.0 head to replace E7TE's........

Considering that the Cobra R made more juice than a LS6 and the fact that using a 6.0L truck intake is a cheap way to add power, GM seems to be too lazy and would rather make power by size instead of efficiency. And, yes, I figured you were joking.

However, the weak point of the 2V heads has been valve size since you can only squeeze in so much in 3.551" of space (even less because the valves aren't centered in the bore). The Trick Flow heads, on the other hand, angle the valves apart, which allows for larger valves. Bigger valves=more flow=more power (generally). If these heads make 4V flow numbers while maintaining good intake velocity and camber swirl, these heads will be a 2nd coming.

All PI heads are the same as far as cams and airflow, doesn't matter which set you port. In other words the stock 5.4 2v heads are the same as the ones that came on your Bullitt, so if those are ported use them. Your intake would would better, assuming you are planning on using adapter plates.

By the way, for those that plan to use adapter plates for a while I found that I still have two sets out in my shop. They were machined with the port angle slightly off and so require a little welding/grinding for the water passages to line up in the gasket. Ports for air line up ok, not perfect, but will seal and are fully usable. Also have a piece that needs to be added (bolted or welded) to one side to swing it over under the thermostat. I have no interest in fixing them at this point, if someone wants to do a little work will sell a set with the necessary pieces and bolts for $80 shipped.

LOL. To be honest, neither Ford or Chevy could win the efficiency argument. Just sayin..

Out of those two, Ford wins. Including other car makers, yeah, the American auto makers loose but we make up for it by not having to spin the engine to insane rpms (a great example is the 427 GT40 vs. Ferrari in LeMans).
