thinking about going with 4.30s
i have a 96gt with a tri ax, x pipe, mufflers, intake, TB, plenum, pulleys. in the spring i am doing a complete exhaust setup with long tubes and such. and also upgrading the suspension. my question is about gears. i am highly considering going with 4.30s. what do you guys think?

It all depends on what you want to do with your car. Its a great gear for drag racing and around town driving. Not the gear I would want on frequent long high speed trips Your car will rev a little bit higher than a car with the tr 3650 tranny with the same gear ratio. If you go with 4:30 make sure you beef up the rear end or don't even try and luanching that thing on slicks.

First of all you have to ask yourself this question! Is this gonna be a track car or a daily driver that might see track time? ...if its gonna be a track car go for it! If not than I sugges you go with some 4.10's if you don't already have them! Two things to consider..first of all you car doesn't have the enough RPM's to make good use of those gears...if you had a 4v,then it would be fine since DOHC are reving monsters! Second of all I hate to say it but your car needs to first make good power to make good use of those gears! The 96-98 came with non pi heads/cams/intake! So you should work on making some good power before you consider real steep gears! Also if you are planning on adding a power adder in the future 4.10's, 4.30's are too much gear! 3.73's are the perfect gears for power adder cars! ...I am not bashing your car in any way just giving you the heads up! Hope this helps with your decision!

hmm choices and decisions....first of all....thanks for all the great input. its really hard to decide. the thing thats keeping me from getting the 4.30s is the fact that i may blow my rear axle. i was going to get the rebuild kit and stuff but i dont know if thats sufficient enough. the car was a daily driver this past summer but i doubt i will drive it every day next season since i will be getting a primary vehicle soon and the mustang will be for fun. i went to the track a few times this past summer and i am sure i will go even more next year. there will be future mods done to the car to increase the power. long tuber and different exhaust and such are going on in the spring and next fall i am thinking about getting the pi heads and some sweet cams. i have heard pros and cons about the 4.30s. i was told not to fear them i was told it was too much. my friend has 4.10s in his 03 gt and he loves them. man i hate these choices...i was planning on getting some nittos so the 4.30s may be out of question now..what do you guys think my 1/4 times will drop if i get 4.10s. my launches right now are pretty good and stuff it just doesnt seem to have a lot of guts out of the whole. thanks again!!!!
