Default H or X pipe?

So, I'm looking at getting a mid-pipe when I get my exhaust (I wanna go with SLP Loudmouth Catback) and I was wondering the difference between a H pipe and X pipe, which one flows better, sounds better, etc. Also, I need to decide between catted and O/R? Thanks for any input.

And x-pipe will give more top end than a H-pipe will where the H-pipe lacks in top end it makes up for with more low end power. But the difference in hp is small around 2-3. so its more of a choose on sound kind adeal. the h-pipe gives the classic deep nasty muscle car sound and an x-pipe gives the more modern euro v8 nosie.

as fr off road or not i can tell ya from experience that the slp with offroad pipe is really really loud. I love loud but that **** was pull me over loud so i got rid of it. if it was me i would use a catted performace mid pipe with the slp catback.

I would go with the X pipe myself, if you are getting the SLP catback. Might want to check out the MT catted X pipe, I'm leaning on that one now.

Never heard the SLP O/R H or X pipe, but I can personally vouch for the MAC O/R H Pipe, LOUD, LOUD and did I mention LOUD. Interior noise is not that bad, and cruising around is pretty mellow... but at WOT the car sounds like a different animal, it turns heads and draws alot of attention especially thru some of the local overpasses and tunnels (Reminds me of the Bridge Noise at Road Atlanta during the Petit Lemans). I went H because i heard the X pipes were really raspy, and I wanted that old school deep sound. Just for fun and since their pretty cheap from Summit, im going to have some drag style cut outs welded in just for the occasional track, and around town joy ride. If you never heard the 4.6 run wide open YOU OWE it to yourself to start the car once the stock h pipe is dropped, running open headers sounds awesome, were talking one bad *** sound!!! Make sure its during a weekday and your neigbors aren't asleep!!! or at home for that matter!!!

i'd say if u don't want to swap an o/r h or x (don't matter) when it comes time for emission testing then stick with the catted.. unless u live in MI (at least one of the states i know of that does not have emisssions testing) then u could get away with the o/r version...

Lucky for me, I live in Columbus,GA no emissions testing yet. I think they do it in Atlanta and its subburbs, but it hasn't trickled down to us yet. Have heard it may be proposed for somewhere around 2010. So ill enjoy it as long as I can.

You can get the race pipes for the SLP X pipe and go o/r or not. Go look at the pic of it, you will see the clamps for the cats. Pretty neat I think.

I had Mac o/r H and dumped flowmasters on my old stang and it was wicked loud, God I loved it.

I agree, i have the same exhaust setup as you. its really nice and loud, yet doesnt sound like a flowmaster, i heart it. But now i am getting a v6 bumper from a guy and running them dumped.

ps what does your car run at the track?

i have the SLP loudmouths and a magnaflow catted X. made a crappy recording with my mp3 player. the clip doesn't do it justice, sounds way better in person. anyway, it should give you an idea for what you want. http://dave.realns.com/vroom.WAV

Exactly right, also there is another midpipe option though, the Mac Prochamber, gives the scavenging of an x-pipe and the deap rumble of an H.
