hey now not all 17yr olds are idiots... When I installed my longtubes I noticed a big gain in trq, but once I added the Cat back....IT WAS INSANE the amount of Trq I gained. So from my experience no mufflers..well basically no mufflers..makes plenty of power. It knocked almost 4/10th off my 1/4mile.

When reading this I was thinking wasn't SLP a straight thru exhaust, and I know a lot of forum members have SLP. I have the full SLP set up but I have cats. I chose these for a reason, to help with the sound, to help calm it down per say, kinda smooth out the exhaust note. If this backpressure or whatever is true or not I don't know. And If it is true, let's be honest are you really gonna see much more than like 2 or maybe 3 RWHP difference? Crap, you barely see 8-10RWHP difference with just a catback.

I run the no muffler also and i get complements every day on it. Never been told it sounds bad so it makes me not want to change it even though i want to. It has a real tight sound to it. Its not to raspy. My opinion its the best sound for the money. And there is no power lose, cause my times stayed the same.

Dont cut the stock mufflers off and use a straight pipe.

When I had my 97 GT it had no mufflers and it was otherwise stock. The sound was annoying. It wasnt any type of "Mustang" sound. I had some flowmaster 2 chambers put on and it was pretty quiet for my tastes. I like a loud car but one that sounds good.

When I bought my 03 GT I have now, the previous owner had cut off the stock mufflers. I dont know why he did that because all the rest of the car was stock and it sounded like crap. The guy traded my GT in for an 03 Cobra. I hope he didnt cut the stock ones off that cobra..... Anyways I put the flows on this one too. but now I have the whole 2 1/2 inch kit. When I had straightpipes on it, the car seemed to pull a little better at around 4500-6000 rpm's. When I put the cat back on it, the car had much more power down where I needed it. It was quicker accelerating and I like that alot more than a few ponies at 5500 rpm LOL. Gas Mileage seemed to get a little better too. The savings will pretty much pay off the cat back I guess...... after a really long time. LOL .

Overall the flowmasters felt much better on my car than just cutting off the stockers. I love the sound of the 2 chambers. It was pretty calm sounding until I got the offroad X Pipe. Now it just sounds amazing. I like the cruising sound alot better than the WOT Jet engine scream when the NOS kicks in.

Its a totally different sound..... With no Muffs it sounds like a truck or something redneck. With flows it just sounds so much deeper and throatier. I know everyone gives you complements. They told me the same thing when I had no muffs. The truth is that the people dont know what theyr listening for. They just hear a loud mustang and think "cooooool". Put my car next to a car without muffs, and youd really hear the difference.

Also please dont argue that the stock 2 1/4 inch exhaust with no muffs is just as good as 2 1/2 inch mandrel bends and high flow muffler.

yea if you like the sound of no mufflers, and dont wanna spend 400 on a SLP exhaust, just have a 2.5 inch catback mandrel bent for you without mufflers in it.. its like 200 bucks cheaper normally and sounds the same as SLP

that sounds like a load of crap to me. no offence. <grin> If somone likes it they like it, to suggest they just dont know any better really kinda puts an "elitist" edge to your arguement of this.

I dunno, i got straights, i think it sounds great, everyone who has heared it thinks it sounds great, even mustang guys and musclecar guys, camaro guys and firebird guys, ive never gotten anything but complitments. Dont get me wrong though, i'd love to cam the **** outta it to get that lug-da-lug sound...

Then again, i also have a 3in diameter xpipe installed which really kinda changes the frequency. doesent sound like hacked off mufflers.
Holy crap 3 inch x-pipe?? and straits?? you're definatley losing power
