Most weird driving/idle problems can be traced back to the Idle Air Control(IAC) valve. You can remove this and clean it on the bench,or use carb cleaner sprayed into the 3/4 inch hose going into the front of the throttle body. The part can be replaced for about $40 from Ford.???

Clean that IAC. You might want to change your PCV valve to a Ford factory PCV as well, just to make sure you are not letting in any more extra exhaust into the system causing the IAC to go screwy.

Are you 5 Speed or Automatic?
