Question Should I worry about...

I just cleaned my car today, and i have recently noticed a build up of a sort of black soot in my exhaust. It is most noticeable on the tips of my exhaust. I have the double walled SLP tips, and the stuff comes off with a little scrubbing, but the best way i can describe it is "soot". Now Im not sure if this is an effect of no cats or if it means I have a rich condition, poor combustion, or what. I am curious if anyone else has had this problem, or any knowledge of this. I appreciate any help

its called carbon...it builds up in the engine and exhaust.....just clean it off...a product called SeaFoam...it cleans out the carbon build up in ur engine....u just need to fine a vaccum line to pore it into....i produces a white smoke so dont get nervous...my friend did it in his civic and it produce a bit of smoke...then i did to my old taurus and it produced alot of smoke....but thats all it is..carbon buildup..and i thinks its just normal carbon build up it think

Mine does the same. Im pretty sure its normal. My last mustang GT did the same thing. I figure its better to have the carbon blown out the exhaust than buildup in the engine.

I ran seafoam through my engine and it produced a fair amount of smoke...

However, for a more thorough clean of my engine, im taking off my intake and de-carbonizing my IMRC's

Look for the PCV Valve. THere should be a line that runs off of there. Stick that line into the seafoam can and let it suck teh whole can up (i.e. leave the car off, hook up the seafoam can, then "crank" the engine). The car wont start but it will suck the seafoam out of the engine. Once its all gone, let the car sit for, 30 min or so, then start it up. It will spudder and sound like its going to die, but it wont. Give it about 20-30 sec at normal idle, and then crank it up to around 3k. Sit there for a minute until all the smoke is cleared out and it stops, then take the car for a spin. Go WOT as soon as possible to clear out the remaining carbon.

5. Profit
