Talking 99 gt getting a 5.4!!

Getting ready to do a 5.4 swap in my 99 gt 5 speed, any advice would be appreciated.

Going to go with some intake plates for now but a 'baller is in my future.
expecting to need to mod my exhaust,swap all my 4.6 sensors over to the 5.4,maybe lengthen the fuel rail crossovers.
Trim passenger side exhaust manifold.
swap oil pans and pickups.
My car has the windsor already so that helps out with the flywheel issue.


just trying to go over what i got to do and maybe get some stuff pointed out that i gotta do that ive missed. So if you think of something im missing let me know.



Is my 19lb injectors gonna keep up if i start spraying it?


Expect alot of these questions from me.

Search the 5.4 sticky. It takes forever but chances are you won't have any questions afterwards.

To answer the injector question, most likely not. Also, make sure your 99 is Windsor. Ford likes to play games at times (for example, in another forum someone bought a GT that came with Boss 302 keys).

Got my 4.6 out and getting ready to strip it down, as tight as that 4.6 was coming out it's gonna be interesting to see how this 5.4 goes down.

Anybody ever painted a plastic intake,and with what? How did it hold up?

one more ? How much backlash(?) is acceptable on the tranny input shaft?
Mine seems like alot by hand,pretty clunky but smooth and quiet once its spinning one direction.

got all my parts swapped over and am putting it in in the morning. I am so ready to drive my car again.

got it bolted in today. just need to figure out how i am going to get the trans harness ran down the back of the motor. Still need to put in driveshaft,trans crossmember and the exhaust.

Wow, that 5.4 is a tight fit let me tell ya, put the motor and trans in in one piece from the top,in the dirt with a chainhoist in a tree, NEVER AGAIN!!!!! got to get me some proper tools.

Im doing this in the spring. Really looking forward to it. My initial set up will be a stock 5.4 with cams and possibly FRPP shorty headers.
While i enjoy that im going to start building another 5.4 block with forged internals and get it ready for boost. And somewhere in there beef up the suspension and brakes lol
