Exclamation Getting Challenged on the Street

How often do you other Mustang owners out there get challenged to a display of horsepower (I don't believe in all-out street racing) on the street by other supposedly fast cars? I can't believe how often someone tries to put their 3000 GT, SRT 4, Camaro, etc., in my face. They rev their engines at stop lights next to me, they pull aside of me and pace me, every imaginable way to try to get me to rise to their challenge. This has always happened since I got the car, but it seems to happen more since I put on my SLP catback; like the louder my car is, the more challenges I get. How about you guys?
Oh, and P.S. - I don't believe in all-out street racing, but I have responded with a "message" to people that persist in taunting me. My Mustang has not embarrassed me yet. :happy4:

My most vivid memory of someone showing me what they can do...
This kid had a 02 ss camaro :iroc: , rolls by and hammers it, I hear him repeatedly hitting the rev limiter as he lights em up in 1st. I was thinking to myself..there will be a spun bearing in his future.

I got more with my 85 SVO 4 banger turbo than I do now with my GT. It seems when they would see a single 3 1/2 inch tailpipe they thought my stang was all show and no go. Mostly it was every import you can imagine but As soon as they would hear the turbo and blow-off valve when I shifted they would back off and asked me what I had.

I get occasional challenges here and there, my car sounds tuff and looks fast as hell but it really isn't anything more than a 96GT. I've beat up on several ricers, and have lost a few but haven't managed to run into any really fast cars that will give me a run. I try not to pick fights with cars i know will blow me away, or cars i know i can blow away, the best races are always the closer ones.

I got challenged more in my f150 then my gt, then again the f150 was faster lol.

But it seems most people know when you hear something that sounds really nasty and fast (OFF ROAD H-PIPE owns YOU) then they dont tend to mess with ya. but i do get the local orlando ricers and cool guys in gm stuff wanting ot race me.

I stopped at a stop sign at 3 in the morning with a Corvette on my right and a twin turbo 3000GT VR4 to my left. The VR4 won off the line from the AWD and behind us was a WRX...

Also, the second day I got my car a S2000 was toying with me at a stop by clutching it and letting off the brakes to roll back and then gas it and then roll back you know?

Being challenged on the street is apart of owning a Mustang. I get it all the time by young guys in their rice rockets and older guys in the classic muscle cars. Ricers are a waste of time to race, even if you beat them badly, they always have and excuse for why they lost and how if things were different they would have won. I enjoy racing the old muscle cars better it is fun showing these guys how with technology 281 cubes can beat 455 cubes. Last summer I ran this guy with a Hust Olds with a 455 and beat him 4 times in a row, we pulled over and wanted to look under my hood. He was dissapointed not to find nirtous or a blower. He took his defeat like a man, unlike ricers do, and was impressed with my car.

It happens from time to time...but I usually look at the offending idiot and just smile and do a little quick "hop". That usually takes care of it. I actually get more grief from fellow Mustang owners because mine is a 98. I am viewed as an easy kill. :laughing9

Yep, I get toyed with all the time. Its, 95% of the time, a slow car thats not even worth wasting gas on. I might drop down a gear on em on the road, but wont take off from a stop. Ill usually rev back when they rev at me at a stop light to make it seem as if im going to race, but continue on my way and let them be the irresponsible jackass.

Thumbs up Like you said MattJ...

Right, that is exactly what I'm talking about. It IS usually cars that have absolutely no chance against mine; it's like they have a chip on their shoulder. Wierd.
V8 S-Z mentioned earlier in this thread that he overheard at work people talking about , you know, "how I wasted a Mustang in my grandma's 1988 Taurus, blah, blah, blah." In this fantasy that these people experience, they fail to use the truthful version of the reality of their experience on the road. That is; "Wow, I touched my accelerator before the Mustang did, and was ahead of him for 15 feet!"; "I got on my car pulling away from the stoplight and managed to actually be ahead of the Mustang through all of first gear before I gave up!"; or, "I really kicked his a--!" (translation; "The Mustang didn't waste his time with me!").

And that's how it goes sometimes.. people have to brag about things that in reality are not true but happened, wether it was a fair race is a different story though. I don't care to listen to people brag about how they think they were faster and give up so they won't loose.
A asked a dude at my work how fast his Toyota Celica is because he's always talking about turbo'ing it. He told me HIGH 5's or LOW 6's 0-60.. I was like what! This is a stock 93 Celica were talking about here. I mean, who is this guy!! He told me the other day the 300hp WRX STi's run only 4psi of boost. I was like "they must have really high compression then!".. I look it up, what do ya know.. 14psi with low compression.. lol

I was test driving my '00 GT with the salesman and my dad IN THE CAR, some HighSchool kid in a Z28 sees me pull out of the dealership (dealership sticker still on the window in front of his face), he slows down to wait for me, pulls next to me trying to get a jump on me, and starts trying to talk to me from his window, while we are still driving. Guess he was trying to impress his girl that was in the Pass. seat. We all just looked at him, wondering what the Hell he was doing. Did he actually think I was going to race him after pulling out of the dealership??? Some people!!! No offense to HS kids driving fast cars, just don't try and be a badass when it is not necessary, take it to the strip.

As i fairly new GT owner I still get a kick out of dusting the local ricers!!! Especially the ones with the huge oversized wings, and mixed match primer gray body kits!!! Ran one last week and the nerd stalled the car out when the light turned green, in case you wondering it was a lime yellow Integra with a beat up primer gray body kit... Sorry ricers spend your money under the hood and not on cheap knock off body kits and 1000 watt Subs...

And to the subject the only thing ive had really try to race me is a yellow corvette but it didnt last long as we hit traffic

I get alot of dumb asses challenging me on the street. Usally I have a couple of my kids with me and I just smile and wave. The biggest turds are fellow GT owners, they all want to run. I had a funny encounter with a Mach one this fall. The dude was about 40, I'm 45 ( both old farts) I pull up behind him at a stop light. He takes off pretty hard on the green. This street is 4 lanes wide straight and flat. There is a signal every 1/4 to 1/2 mile. I pull up next to him at the next light, he looks over like he's the king of the road. He takes off hard again, I just drive normal. Now he's getting irritated. Next light he hits it even harder, again I don't respond. This happened 4 lights in a row. I'm sure he told his buddies how the GT was afraid to run him, he's damn lucky I didn't run I had my Nitto's on that day and would have smoked him but good. I don't waste my time with Ricers, they are just plain a joke. Like racing a mini van.

I can't believe you didn't smoke him!! If your kids were with I understand why you didn't. I'd love to pull up next to a GT, it's a definate race.

I have a guy here in town who wants to race me when i FINISH! my car!!! He runs a v6 stang with a cold air intake and thinks he's the **** so in the middle of school he shot his mouth off and bet me $300 on a race after i finish my car! Now he is going to have to do it because about 100 people heard him. Also I got some guy who overheard me talkin about my plan on the stang and he comes up like "so do you want to start a street racin syndicate?" I was like what is this fast and furious crap. People are so dumb sometimes. I just laughed at him and told him he was an idiot.

Sometimes the best thing is not to do anything at all. The only person that needs to know that you can beat him is yourself.

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF MY '95 COBRA. I USED TO GET CHALLENGED A LOT BY MY FRIENDS WITH CAMARO SS'S OR VETTES. SOME I'D WIN, SOME I'D LOSE. THE IRONY IS THAT THEY'VE ALL BID ADIEU TO THEIR GM PRODUCTS WHILE MY FORD STILL RUNS STRONG! NOW I ONLY GET CHALLENGED BY RICERS BUT I DON'T USUALLY EXCEPT UNLESS TO PROVE A POINT. THEY KINDA OF REMIND ME OF WHEN I WAS KID AND WOULD PUT A BASEBALL CARD IN MY BIKE SPOKES TO GET V8 SOUND. :laughing6

Someone at my school just got a new '05 V6 and thinks that his car will smoke mine and my friends GT and Cobra. He says...quote "The V6 is lighter and is faster in the 1/4 mi. than all of your cars." The thing is he is'nt joking around when he says it, he is totally bought into the idea that he will smoke any one of us...and by a greaet distance. BTW his is auto and all of ours are stick....
