Question 03 V8 Stang

I got my stang just the end of last year and I believe the only thing that isnt stock on it is the mufflers.
I dont know where to start with my car i wanna give it more power, but not so much that it will chug the gas at the station.
Also i wanna do more suspension work to it because it doesnt exactly like taking corners well lol
So my question is where do I start? because i know that if i plan to change one thing there is usually more that needs to be done before something else can be.

So your opinions, where would you start and what would you do?

I'm going to make your life easy.

Remove your air silencer on your stock intake, throw a K&N air filter in there. Same power you get from a CAI, 200 dollars cheaper.

If you don't like the sound you have, or are interested in something better than what you have, I highly recommend Borla Stingers, Or a Bassani Catback.

If you want a better handling car, but not something too extreme, pick up a set of Eibach or H&R lowering springs. Your car will LOOK, and handle better. To compliment the springs, get a set of Mach1/Bullitt take off shocks/struts. Cheap, and are the same as Tokico HP shocks/struts.

If you have a 5 speed, go with an MGW short shifter. You will not be disapointed.

As for looks, go for whatever you like. In my opinion, and many other opinions, your best bet is a Mach 1 Grille Delete, and chin spoiler.

From what i can see, you have stock wheels. Check out AmericanMuscle.com. I suggest 18x9/18x10.5 Black Saleens.

That should keep you busy. lol.

LOL. V6s get the same or worse gas mileage than the GTS.

Power adder section is for questions on nitrous, superchargers, turbos etc. Moving to 4.6 tech.....

As for your question its more of a how much money do you want to spend and how fast do you want to go?

A few basic bolt on parts like a drop in K&N or the like filter and removing the silencer, along with a mid-pipe of your choice, and a tune will make these cars decently quick and fun. If its a manual tranny an aftermarket shifter is a must and can be had used for very cheap as well. After that it costs money to get real gains.

Exhaust and suspension would be the first things on my list. You already have mufflers so get the mid pipe of your liking and throw on the cheapest cai you can find. After that you need to really decide on what you want out of your car.

Like some others said I would definitely get a set of lowering springs and shocks and struts. That will make the car look good as well as handle better. If you want a little go I would get a K&N filter and remove the air silencer. Next on the list would be gears (best bang for your buck hands down) unless you really want to change up the exhaust. You said that you had aftermarket mufflers but is it a full cat back system? If not I'd recommend a catback and maybe a mid pipe. Most of these mods are relatively cheap (under $500) especially if you know someone who can help with installing them. Have fun!

if you want to handle better, i suggest you go to stangsuspension.com and find a nice handling package. i picked up this one http://stangsuspension.com/store/com...?idproduct=175 and love it. then i picked up a set of steed full length sub fram connectors and the car handles like a dream. next for suspension is control arms and a bump steer kit.

on thing EVERYONE here is forgetting are some Swaybars and full length subframe connectors. i can tell you everything you need to make your car fun to drive while you are still learning the cars characteristics

1) MGW short throw shifter
2) Maximum Motorsports Full Length Subframe Connectors
3) Lowering Springs (Eibach or H&R)
4) Shocks and Struts (tokico blues are very good on the streets)

if you really wanna spend some money on your car, 4.10 rear diff gears are the way to go. best modificaiton i have done out of all of my mods hands down. but be prepared to pay a pretty penny.

also, seems like your extremely new to this scene, check out other forums:
Modularfords.com
svtperformance.com
stangnet.com
modularpowerhouse.com

do some research, modfords and svtp are extremely big and have ALOT of useful information.

Fix the major weaknesses first:
1. Remove the silencer
2. Hurst Shifter (form and function)
3. MM rear lower control arms (Global West is good stuff too)
4. FRPP Handling Pack (shocks, struts, springs, and sway bars)
5. Subframes (full length or don't bother)
6. Cobra brakes (front first, rear later)

After that, then you need a plan for your car since modifications after that are more application specific (like 4.10 gears in a blown car is not really a good match).

That's pretty much what I pay. It's just over $200/month.
