Searching and Google are your friends. In short though, either lift the engine partially out of the engine bay or drop the k-member. Doing it w/ everything as is is impossible.

If you have a engine hoist and or can get that strut tower engine lift (its a lift that sits on the strut towers and holds the motor) then drop the K member as its take very little time to do this and makes everything much much easier. Otherwise if you don't have those items you will need to unbolt the motor mounts and possibly tranny mount and jack the motor up to help make it easier to get the long tubes in.

As bassman said its nearly impossible to do it without doing one or the other ways mentioned above.

Go to fnsweet.com and click on the "how to" link...then scroll down to long tube headers. Its got the step by step that I used to install mine last spring. took me about 5 days to do. Good luck

When we did shortys on my 00 2v gt we didnt have all the fancy tools and what not so we just pretty much loosened up the motor mounts jacked up the motor as much as we could. Of course the starter had to come out so did the EGR stuff and all that. Also steering shaft had to be undone to be able to get them in and out.

Get yourself an S-shaped ratcheting wrench in the size of your new header bolts. You'll thank me later.

Heres another good write-up as well. http://www.fnsweet.com/garage/lt_install/index.shtml#1

+1000...That was such a pain in the ***...especially when I put it all back together and learned that my passenger header was leaking...had to take it all apart and tighten it. Took and extra 6 hours with 2 other guys helpin me out.

With the MAC long tube headers i had to heat up and bend one of the runners from touching my starter. I also had to lift the engine a little, but i had my trans disconnected at the same time cause i was putting in a 3800 stall too. Its ALOT easier with the engine up and k member down...

step 1- drop k member

don't try to be fancy and swap them without dropping it first...it rarely turns out well

drop the k-member thats what i did.. their are 10bolts holding it on get something to support the motor before dropping the motor mount bolts lol.

you'll have to take the starter off to get the passenger side header in.

it really easy. just PITA to get the bolts broken loose and out. once the k-member is dropped it's easy as cake from there

the egr tube is a pita to break loose from the driver's manifold. i said screw it and broke it in 1/2 and got another one from ford. lol. i wouldnt suggest that though. i'd try my damndest first to get it off.

you will have to take off your steering rack. hang it on your sway bar with zipties, 2 bolts holding it to the k-member and 1 behind the k-member you can get from the drivers side. it's on the steering shaft.

here's a quick pic i took.

back on topic... check out last months MM&FF. they have a good article about installing the LT headers, and the shop that did it also recommend removing the k-member because you'll undoubtedly shear a bolt.
