If i were you i wouldnt go with the Intake manifold unless your swapping out the heads too. I went with the VT Stage 2 N/A cams. They were awesome, had a nice lope, perfect sound and great performance increase. I suggest you upgrade your torque converter too though. I went with a 3800 stall and 4.10 myself.

Im in the process of putting a similar set up on my GT. I ran with the typhoon intake but I also plan on having my heads ported by Anderson Ford. As mpt 1962 said you prolly wont get that much from an intake unless youre changing your heads. Im also torn on the cams. Ive heard nothing but great things about both comp cams 270 as well as the VT stage II. I havent read any complaints about either on any forum and I guess they have similar performance gains. Either way good luck.

well the VT stage 2 cams you do NOT have to degree them. I'm sure there is something you can do to tweak performance, like timing and whatnot. But i just took out the old sticks and threw in the VT's, long tubes, and 3800 stall and dynoed it all at once. Only go with the intake manifold if you are porting your heads out.

Guaranteed most will say get stage 2 cams. However, too many factors go into the choice, like weight, stall speed, type of trans, rear gear, desired operating range, etc. If you want the best cam for your application call/email any one of the big three (Crane, Comp, and Crower) for a recommendation (they have recommendation forms on their websites). You may not get the most power but the most power doesn't mean it's the best overall for your application.

+++1 biggest cam does not always make you the fastest.

You don't have to degree any cams but if you want the most power out of them you should do it.

As for the intake, it's a good mod even if you don't port the heads as long as you go with the right cam/intake combo.

Auto or manual?

i dont think you should try to match your intake to your cam...i think thats more of a head to match cams thing.

You do need to degree some cams or you run the risk of PTV.

Matching the cam to the heads and intake is equally important. But in this case the heads are already a known peice of the combination. The intake type is needed to determine the LSA and LCs needed and also the duration. A stock PI headed motor with a PI intake would need completely different cams if it had an edelbrock single plane intake. I recommend the Edelbrock intake with with cams spec'd for it.

well all these listed below got me to 275 at the wheels...
MAC long tube headers
BBK H w/high flow cats
SLP Loudmouth 1
VT Stage 2 N/A Cams
75mm throttle body
K&N CAI
4.10's
3800 stall converter
Tuned by Greg at RET

I had alot more stuff done than that, but thats all the "performance" stuff.

VTs are not the way to go by any means. You can get more power and better driveability with some HItechs or custom ginds from many other places.

Brian at Hitech does a great job, as well as Bullet cams. I do some also (at no charge) and you can have Comp grind them for you.

What kind of reputation do your cams have? Sounds extremely sketchy to me.

What sounds sketchy? Custom gound cams, 5.4s needing a tighter LSA or...? I've gotten 340rwhp out of a fairly mild 2v and over 500rwhp out of a n/a, BB/stoker 4v, 380 from a mildy cammed, stock compression, B headed 4v, there are others also.

I spend most of my time on the bigger, more tech freindly sites like Corral, Modular Fords, SVT Performance and Modular Mustang Racing Forums (where I'm a moderator) and Mach 1 Registry. Try Corral.net for some good info on 2v motors...far better than here.

Go to Hitechmotorsport.com

Also do a search on Corral for them. BTW, Comp grinds all of Hitechs cams and mine, we just tell them what lobes we want and where to place the lobe centers. I ran some of hitech's custom ginds in my first 4v motor and the results were outstanding.

Gotcha. Im a member on all of those forums too, except the MMR forum. How long have you been doing grinds for people?

Believe me, I know the tech here is nothing special. I actually just mentioned that a couple days ago in another thread.

I've been spec'ing cams for a few years.

I agree on the tech here, this isn't a bad site but the others are visited very often by people that race, own shops, build engines or all of the above. I think the best site for 2v info is Corral.
