Default Built Engine ?s

I need some estimates from you guys on how much it cost to build a 4.6 2v amd if it is cheaper to buy a whole new engine. I am trying to help with my brothers 4.6 build but don't know if we should buy an entire new built motor or have a shop build the one currently in the car. His car has about 15,000 miles on it if that is useful info.

Depending on what you do yourself, its almost always cheaper to get a pre built motor. However you don't always get exactly what you are looking for where as if you build it yourself you get to choose everything that goes into it.

If you can find a good local machine shop (vs. a major builder) and if you can find great deals on the parts, rebuilding will be cheaper.

Problem I had was finding a machine shop that had experience with mod motors.

I'd get a short block and put the rest together, but make sure the cams are right, degreed is best.

thanks for the replies. I pretty sure I am going to purchase a shortblock from MPH and then assemble the rest so I avoid labor cost.

Thats most likely the best bet. I do not know of many engine builder who know much about mod motors in my area.
