Default Where to begin

I have an '01 Mustang GT convertible (automatic), everything is stock as of right now, I want to add more HP but am not sure where to begin. I know I'll end up putting in a CAI and aftermarket exhaust but I would like to know what else I can do to add HP and since i can only afford to do it 1 mod at a time, any suggestions on what to do first, second, etc. ? And also which brands should I go with on each part? Any help will be appreciated and any extra tips will be greatly appreciated as well.

Just listing off ideas:

gears 3.73 or 4.10(won't add HP but will improve acceleration greatly), tuner (i prefer SCT from www.vmptuning.com ), UDP, nitrous (special going on at americanmuscle.com for the month of October http://www.americanmuscle.com/zex-mu...-96-04-v8.html ), supercharger

if i were you, i would do 4.10s first. rule of thumb is 4.10s for autos, and 3.73s for manual. at the same time, get a tuner. friend of mine did 4.10s and a tuner on his automatic 2000 Gt and had a big HP gain.

as far as a cold air intake... don't bother. the 2v engines see no gain at all with a CAI. seriously, if i could do it over, i would've saved my money and gone straight for a blower. just do your exhaust (cat-backs) and then save your money to get some kind of FI system. upgrade your suspension too.

oh yeah, if you want a little bit of gain and an extra sound coming from under the hood (which is what a CAI) will give you, just remove the intake silencer and get a K&N air filter!!!

What you want to start off w/ yields no power gains, it's just for looks/sound. If you want real gains, change the rear end gears or work on the suspension first so you can get the car to hook up all of its power.

WORD. sometimes suspension can be overlooked until later, however i recommend doing it early. exhaust and cai are just for sound, no HP gain at all. an exhaust WILL alow better flow, which will improve overall performance.

gears are good because they provide quicker acceleration and give the illusion of more HP because you can step on the gas and go-go-go!!
